The 'stache plays.I get asked from time to time (and more often, lately) if I get tired of devoting so much of my little corner of the Interwebs to ripping really bad sports columns.

Oh, I do.

But if they keep writing them, I’ll keep hacking them.  Somebody’s got to do it.

That’s why it’s a pleasure when somebody like the great Peter Gammons (and he is great, and though I enjoy poking fun at him from time to time, I have no venom for him–at all) gets it just right.  He’s leaving ESPN after 20 years, but he’s not going far, he’s just going to MLB Network, where he won’t have to compete with 47 hours of televised poker every week.

And today, he wrote his farewell column on ESPN.com, and as only he could do, he simply, and gracefully let us all in on how much fun he had at that place.
