The 2012 Cubs are unique, not in that they’re going to be bad, but because they’re actually designed to be that way.  Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are trying to turn the whole damned franchise around and it’s going to take some time.  So this isn’t a team patched together hoping to get lucky and stumble into the playoffs.

You know…like the 1989 Cubs.

One of our favorite teams of all-time.  A fatally flawed, but incredibly fun bunch.  They came from nowhere, won a division title and went right back to being terrible the next year.

Here’s a video Arne Harris put together and played after the clincher in Montreal.  Any highlight video that shows Les Lancaster winning a game by squeezing in Lloyd McClendon, shows an Andre Dawson who could still jump, and is chock-full-of-Shawon Dunston can’t be anything but awesome.  My favorite moment?  The incredible game ending double play against the Mets when Shawon ran out into left field, made an over the shoulder catch, turned and fired and threw all the way to first to double off the runner.

Enjoy.
