Help me out here, was it just a dream, or was I really called up to the Cubs for September after posting a 1000+ OPS with 30 HRs for Iowa this year??
Do ya think I could maybe, just maybe, outhit Tom Badwin and The Gremlin?
Why does Dusty Baker have a job again? Is it affirmative action gone horribly awry?
Jason,
It’s sunny. You know Goodwin plays better in the sun than you do.
We will be starting in the night cap.
Sorry Todd. Your OBP is just too high for me to bat you 2nd. BTW, I’m kinda stupid.
Don’t call me stupid!
I could be wrong, but isn’t this big playoff game for us? Why isn’t A-Ram and Alou in the game? Last I checked, this game was kind of important. Does Dusty not want Ramirez becoming a team leader or something?
Any bets I pop a bunt up to lead off this game?
That’s okay, Dusty. My OBP has gone way down anyway since I’m not so good when I play four times a month.
Boy, was I wrong.
Goodwin took more pitches than Corey did!
Dusty should take him out of the lineup now!
Did Pavano dump me after I got this dumb haircut?
Well, I *am* replacing Moises Alou, aren’t I?
Is Dusty’s thinking include me? You know to bring your good hitters off the bench later in the game.
Oh I’m a dumbass.
You can’t say Goodwin can’t do a good Moises impression.
First inning single. Then he gets picked off, then Nomar doubles to score…nobody.
Juan Pierre got perilously close to the ivory out there in center.
Hey, I just cost us a run in this huge game! I’m really a worthless POS, aren’t I?
I cost us one run already.
All your base are belong to us.
Mosies and Tom have been using me alot.
Two baserunners, an extra base hit, yet Mr. Millano only tosses 13. Yeah, that’s how to win a doubledork.
Here’s a chance for Dusty to send a message to his players, without doing anything to a good player. Send DuBois out in Goodwin’s place to start the 2nd inning.
Ha ha, good one, CT.
Only a fat retard like Sosa would allow me to end up on second after that hit.
I’m proving my worth for a contract extension, buddy.
I am the worst player in the league! Good luck making the playoffs with me on your team.
Yet more brilliant playoff-winning execution from the Cubs.
First Goodwin and now Sosa can’t get in front of a ball.
Should I throw a wild pitch here?
Hey Buddy, You are very welcome for the extra base. Don’t ever say Sam-me isn’t generous. Baseball has been good to me, so I good to you.
I want to join Sammy and Goodwin on the smart players club by walking Alex Gonzalez.
Whee!
I’m very good at this sport.
I just picked up Sammy. Not that the selfish prick appreciates it–or even realizes that I bailed his bulbous ass out.
God, even when he says something seemingly benign, he annoys the crap out of me: "Todd Walker makes the EASY play" on the groundout.
Which play is he supposed to make, dumbass, charge the slow roller and make a bizarre attempt at 3b?
Only 34 more innings until the Marlins are gone.
Oops. I forgot. Here’s a pic of me.
Whatever, buddy. I hit homer, buddy! You see!
Over/under on the fundamental/execution mistakes that will occur in the rest of the doubleheader:
11
How often do you see a guy fuckup in the field and not recover himself at the plate leading off the next inning?
Goddamnit stop posting the Kerry Wood wedding photo! We know it’s you, Dave Kaplan!
I remember Chip used to occasionally talk about what a mind blowing occurance it was for a fielder to make a great play and then come up to bat in the bottom of the inning… Does he have any theories on a fielder making an assbackwards play in the field then pissing away an at bat in the bottom of the inning?
See what exactly, Sam Me? Your shriveling physique and anemic production? Yeah, thanks a lot, asswipe.
Remember when I was good? Boy, those were the days, weren’t they? Shame about my time as a dominant (or even average) ballplayer not matching up with the time when the franchise really could use another good player.
Next at-bat I hit homer for you #41 buddy!
Stop making fun of us! Don’t take away our aggressiveness! We’re not whiners, you are!
The ridicule hurts because it’s true. It’s such a fuckin’ chore to root for these guys.
So don’t root for them, duh.
Mr. Sosa,
We’ve just received a new shipment of steriods if you are interested. Please give us a call when you get this message and we’ll set up an appointment. We understand you are playing a doubleheader today, so maybe you’d like to cut out around the 6th inning. I’m sure you can be back by the start of Game 2.
Thanks.
Pavano can’t do that to me! I’m one of the five best pitchers in the NL!
We are just awesome today.
Sammy:
Your 72 clones will be ready in late October. You’re on your own until then.
At least you have my steady glove instead of the one of E-ramis! Right?
On the plus side, I can’t steal any bases because you know, they’re FULL.
Again, you’re a Cubs fan not by choice at this point in your life. I know there’s no logic in that. But that’s how many of us are. So yeah, it’s not really fun rooting for a team that you don’t really like.
No me gusta Dusty Baker!
Nice job so far, the Marlins have given the Cubs two outs and Ramon has thrown both away.
On the bright side one throw was way left, one was way right, the next one will either be perfect or over Walker’s head and into the right field stands.
The manager inexplicably benches his two best hitters, the left-fielding baserunning specialist gets picked off first and costs the team a run, the expensive rightfielder lets a ball bounce by him, putting added pressure on his pitcher, the pitcher gives up a leadoff single to the pitcher, the fielding specialist third-baseman makes back to back horrible throws…
We’re not going to make the playoffs this year, are we?
We give you two outs and you won’t take it? Fine by us. Note that the league gave you guys a playoff spot and you pissed that away, too.
Three errors in two+ innings? Ramon fing Martinez? Do these guys want to make the playoffs?
Don’t none of you be blamin’ this on me! Just because the two backups I started for no good reason have made this game 2-0 Florida instead of 1-0 Chicago, don’t none of you be blamin’ me! I talked to Sparky Anderson! I know what I’m doing.
Well the bases are loaded for the heart of the order, nice. In Ramon’s defense, it’s really hard to throw to first with both hands around your neck.
I don’t feel like going to the play offs
In Dusty we Sucky today.
That’s good Dusty, because neither do we.

"We give you two outs and you won’t take it? Fine by us. Note that the league gave you guys a playoff spot and you pissed that away, too."
The Cubs were given a playoff spot? What the fuck are you talking about?
That lazy-ass Martinez had better not be on this club in 2005. This bench has to be better. They don’t have to be All-Stars, but someone to field a simple bunt would be nice.
And we’re not done with 3 innings. Yeah, that’s how to win a doublebill.
Baker Basher can collect one (1) beer from me next time he is in Chicagoland. Hell, I’ll up the ante. He can collect three (3) beers, as Dusty’s superlemons have cost the Cubs a grand total of three runs thus far.
If a superstar cannot play both ends of a doubleheader in SEPTEMBER against one of the teams you’re battling for the last playoff spot, you have serious problems.
Boys, with my groin, I wouldn’t have made either play. So get over it.
But I think Nomar should play a little deeper at short. When Jeff Conine can hit a routine grounder to you at short and you can’t gun him, you’re in left field.
Pierre taught me how to run fast on the plane ride to Chicago.
Dusty, want to send another message? Pinch hit for Ramon next inning. HA!
We’ve become a joke. Aren’t we funny?
Can we panic now?
We’ve become a joke. Aren’t we funny?
I will hit a homer next half inning!!!
Actually, both of those plays at third were routine, and I would probably have made both. I certanly would have made at least one of them.
Also, out of E-Ramis character now:
However dumb Baker is, Baker Basher is significantly dumber. It is an incontrovertible fact.
Booooo!!!
Where shall I stick myself?
I am brutal to listen to on the radio
The sad part is Ramon f’ing Martinez is probably going to play the second game at short because Dusty wont play Nomar 2 games in a row
How did I get out of that inning giving up only 2 runs? At least somebody on this team is worth a damn.
I’m playing short in the nightcap, and hey look, the Fish can’t field a bunt, either!
Hey a hit!
You must run on Paul LoDuca…he makes Gabor and Barrett look like Pudge Rodriguez.
Of course, he’s got the throw to first down, right Goody?
Neifi, that wasn’t really a bunt.
We aren’t really a contender.
A lineup with Tom Goodwin and Ramon Martinez starting is not a contender. Astute observation, huh?
Alex Gonzalez singles to 3rd?!? What the f%ck is Ramon doing out there?
Ramon, you shouldn’t waste that piss by wetting yourself. Use it on your hand.
Nice to see Ramon at least almost did something good this inning.
Why couldn’t I get a shot in LF today? Is is because I’m not a Proven Veteran(TM)?
Boy how excited was the crowd last year when I hit that homerun? Ah, memories.
Hey, Ramon caught a pop up, and there was a derisive cheer! That’s always a good sign. Means you’ve really been kicking ass with the glove today, Ramon.
Sosa, Off Base Alou, The Bullpen Et Al. That’s what I’ve observed. And they’ve been in plain view since April.
Dammit BC, come down from your ivy tower.
This is really painful.
Sorry for whining, Moises.
How many of us weak bastards have the Marlins had today?
Good enough for a 2-0 lead, but we are the reason this lead feels so cheap…
Remember when Dusty refused to play me at 3b when E-ramis’s groin fell apart as I’d be a downgrade defensively?
I guess his logic was that I wouldn’t have been able to catch that pop-up that Ramon handled so well.
In left, there’s Tom Goodwin.
-Picked off first right before Nomar doubled.
-Struck out weakly with 2 outs, a full count, a runner in scoring position, and Nomar on deck.
At third, there’s Ramon Martinez.
-On consecutive plays, fielded mediocre bunts and then threw the ball wide of first. This eventually resulted in both Florida runs.
-Misplayed a sharp grounder into an infield single.
-Popped up feebly to the short left.
It’s where Ron Santo says the Braves play…
Home run time, buddy.
Just wondering, how listless do the Cubs have to be before Andy will acknowledge that this team is a big steaming pile of crap?
That’s what I’ve dropped on my average since August 1.
But I’m looking forward to being loved, buddies.
Well i tried my best
Faux Andy…e-mail me.
andy@desipio.com
It’s pretty bad when I’m sitting on the bench and am a better player than that future hall of fame rightfielder.
I am good, buddy.
He called the shit, crap, its poop!
God I hate you guys. Now I know why Clement keeps begging out of games.
Andy is what the Cubs rely on for their fanbase: eternally optimistic and overly confident. Our good friend alcohol helps inflate both.
Really, it’s admirable the way Andy props up his beloved Cubs. Still, it will be October 4th and John Williams on WGN in the afternoons for four months before Andy realizes the turnaround that he’s tirelessly promised has been just around the corner will be postponed until April, 2005.
Wow. What’s with the Desipio gang today? Your lives must have left you bitter and resentful of everyone you encounter.
Good at swinging, missing, and misplaying ground balls and flyballs to the outfield. But at least your wife is some good eye candy
Hi again
Again, how many of me do the Marlins have? 4? That’s half their 7 hits, Pat tells me.
This is exactly how our thread played out during Game 1 of our doubleheader yesterday, except Faux Andy = Faux Merle over here. Yeeee haw!
Don’t we have to get some runners on before we use one of our big bats that are somehow on the bench right now?
How exactly did Cabrerra single to the catcher?
My theory: Dusty is throwing this game because he bet against the Cubs in order to win money to pay off his IRS debt. Sorry, I think the ads for that Pete Rose movie have finally gotten into my sub-conscious.
Is it late enough for Ramirez and Alou to come in and win the game yet??
Could Karry post? The cubs played well during the olympics when Karry was posting. Anything might help?
What sucks more – my life, or my site? Tough call.
I grounded a little feeble thing like 3 feet in front of Barrett’s left and of course I beat out the throw. We Marlins are speedy little fckers!
If anybody wants me after the game, I’ll be sitting in my locker crying, just like Rey Ordonez.
Walker got a hit! Let’s see how he’ll get picked off by LoDuca at first, caught stealing second, or thrown out by an outfielder after not tagging up on what ended up being an easily caught flyball!
Game Notes
The Marlins and Expos will play Monday and Tuesday´s games at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago with Hurricane Ivan threatening South Florida. Both games will start at 1:05pm ET.
Hmm, anyone want to take in a game at U.S. Cellular Field with me on Monday?
Where would we be right now if I’d kept my mouth shut against Oswalt?
Why didn’t Walker try to tag up on that?
It was a tough weekend for me. You guys just don’t understand how hard it was. Yeah.
Listen to me defend Ramon Martinez, despite his costing us this game.
"He’s had a tough day, but he’s got a tough role."
Because man, isn’t it hard to throw a strike to first? It’s IMPOSSIBLE.
I will also defend Rey Ordonez and Jose Macias, if you ask me two. I love defending scrubs who get starts they don’t deserve and wind up single-handedly losing huge games for the team.
Um, guys, if you want to hold that doubleheader with the Expos on the South Side, I have an idea. maybe I can blow up records or CDs in between games to entertain the faithful.
Slip slidin’ away…..
Slip slidin’ a-waaaa-aaaayyy…..
Cuz you know the Cubs suck, bad luck,
Slip slidin’ away…..
Where would the Astros be if I hadn’t started taking cortisone shots every hour on the hour?
#123-we’d be right where we are now.
Give me a goddam break. You’re blaming Michael Barrett for the Astros winning a bunch of games in a row, and the Cubs playing like shit?
Hey, personal accountability means nothing, apparently. Why not just blame the curse, you fucking buffoon?
You know the desipio masses are hostile when CHUCK is defending Andy.. jeesh.
Let the record show I just showed up now, so none of the bitterness can be poured on me.
Andy’s idea is now in play. Cubs fans should pack the Joan and throw beer cups on the field all day and force forfeits.
Wow, we get to play in Comiskey Park. I can’t wait to sit in Al Lopez’s office and fill out a lineup card.
You know what’s weird? If you guys still had me, you’d probably have at least 3 more wins, including today, because despite not being able to hit, I am at least not going to lose you a game with my glove.
or something.
After absolving Ramon Martinez of all responsibility for today’s loss, despite his errors that cost the Cubs two runs, I am blaming Todd Walker and his baserunning. Because, ya know, Kerry Wood was going to drive him in from first.
If nothing else AT LEAST Ramon forced Pavano to throw 11 pitches to him.. putting his pitch count closer to woods.. f@ck.. never mind.. inning ending double play. jesus. Anybody got a virgin? we need to sacrafice one for the greater good.
Well, you have to give the Cubs credit.
They keep coming up with new and imaginative ways to get picked off the bases.
I really don’t think that is a baserunning error. If you take a good secondary lead you really have no chance to get back to the bag. Especially on a ball hit that hard.
Ramon that was awesome. Walker was just clogging up the base paths. I’m glad you got him off. I think I’ll start you in game 2 because of that. Great work.
See, my strikeouts no look so bad now, eh buddy?
Scout, you’re crazy. Walker’s baserunning on that play is why the Cubs aren’t going to the playoffs.
Walker just gave me a call up in the booth. He says that he and Moises are sorry for all the trouble they’ve caused me and would like to make it up to me.
No problem, buddies! I’ll see you in the tunnel to the clubhouse after the game!
Can we panic now?
until Mota and Benitez are factors.
How did we ever win games?
Three runs?
Hell, it was gonna take a miracle to get two with this sorry-sack performance.
Actually, our strategy is now is to fall behind far enough that Mota and Benitez don’t come into the game.
Why would you panic over a baseball team? If there was a time to panic over this one, it was when the starting staff wasn’t healthy out of spring training, or when Sammy sneezed himself into obscurity. This recent stuff honestly just seems the natural progression of things.
BC, the term is sad-sack.
I’m done waiting for Andy. It’s over.
Hey Dusty, should I start warming up?
Haw haw!
Before you all blame Sammy for that…and I’m sure you will, that was my fault. I called him off and then lost it in the sun and he had to lunge for it with me in the way to try and save my ass.
That is all. Commence the panic. Because game one is over.
I am now fellating the Marlins.
Do I even want to know how Castillo scored from 1st on a single?
hiccup!
Sammy and Corey can’t catch a flyball.
It’s now 6-0 Marlins.
I think it’s time to panic.
Not to worry, guys. I’ll lose Game 2 as well.
Yeah, people were dumbasses for suggesting that you needed me.
Just a thought: if Dusty was gonna sit down Alou and Ramirez in this game, why not just start Sergio or Rusch, pitch Woody in Game 2 against the rookie, go with Prior tomorrow and back up Z to go against Burnett on Sunday.
This game was pretty much a forfeit from the start. Now, Corey and Sammy play "I got it, you take it". This is EMBARASSING!!!
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
Yeah, see the last two games.
Ok, so who can be salvaged from this mess?
SP Kerry Wood
SP Mark Prior
SP Carlos Zambrano
SP Greg Maddux
C Michael Barrett
1B Derrek Lee
3B Aramis Ramirez
OF Corey Patterson
Those are the only ones I’m sure of.
I’m yelling my bolonga nipples off!!!!
Why not me?
Could we be any dumber?
Yeah, on Wednesday against the Expos.
Grudz
Ramirez
Nomar
Alou
Dusty picks: Macias! Yay!
Sadly, I did my best.
My bad. No Nomar.
On the bright side…
— tickets will be easier to obtain next year;
— If anyone is getting married in October, you won’t waste precious days on your Honeymoon watching baseball with your new bride;
— Nomar, Prior, Grudz, Wood, Sosa, Aramis et al will get several months of rest;
— The Bears just might win more games than the Cubs from today until March 25 (is that good?)
The intensity is gone. The sharpness is gone. The professionalism (like not wasting your breath worrying about what an assclown like Chip Caray says) is gone.
And by the way, is there a chance the new trainer and his staff are a bunch of quacks? Another thought.
I suppose "this" was in reference to the last week or so. But yeah.
You’d be fine, but are we going to re-sign you, after this disastrous end of 04?
I dunno. Besides, I’d rather have Beltran and Renteria than Nomar and whomever.
Dude, you don’t understand strategy. In the 9th inning when the bases are loaded with 2 out, I’m going to send Moises to stand in the on-deck circle during Ramon’s at bat, while E-Ramis goes down to the club house to get me a beer. Oh, and I may be dumb, but even I know that Nomar is not currently on the bench.
I may be more expensive than Nomar.
Dusty I thought you drank me, not beer.
What a bunch of losers, remind why Dusty is our manager?
Can we sacrifice BC? My guess is he’s a virgin.
Is it sunnier when the Marlins are batting?
No way is Renteria more expensive than Nomar. He’s not cheap, certainly, but Nomar’s viewed as a superstar, while, rightly or wrongly, Renteria’s not. Personally I think that they’re close in overall value, although Nomar’s a superior hitter.
You know who I feel really bad for, in all this, going back to Games 6 and 7 of last year? Jim Hendry. Because he did a fantastic job, and the usual Cub fan complaint that the Cubs had inept management and that’s why they never won was taken off of the table. Last year, I think it was just plain bad luck. This year it was a little bad luck, but an awful lot of bad managing, bad baserunning, bad fielding, bad relief pitching, and general bad baseball.
Weren’t we down 6-0 to the Cards, and came back?
I thought Dusty was going to "slide" in ramirez and Alou toward the end of Game #1. So why does Tom Goodwin bat for himself in the 6th?
I thought Dusty was going to "slide" in ramirez and Alou toward the end of Game #1. So why does Tom Goodwin bat for himself in the 6th?
Yes, but that team was good. This team is not very good.
Carl, your bat never had that much pop before…
184, yeah, but we’re down 7 now.
Nomar may be viewed as a Superstar, but don’t believe that the rumors of him being a cancer won’t hurt his value. As will the takeoff of the BoSox without him. As will the achillies injury.
Anyone who pays substantially more for Nomar than for me is a fool.
Hell, if Dusty wants to rest guys who have had five of the last eight days off, he ought to yank the rest of the starters. My bet is that Dusty is gonna get grilled in the post-game press conference.
Chip and Stoney are fellating Pavano more than Milano ever did.
A team that goes through scoreless stretches of 24 and 19 (and counting) innings in September is in trouble. Hendry had better put away the Rotisserie guide and put together a team of guys who can play an all-around game.
The only thing saving this game is how funny I am.
Hey isn’t this great?
Dave, I’m betting that Dusty shows up to the press conference with Darrin again.
Is that Lionel Richie singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"?
Hey Andre, you want to play right field for the rest of the season?
CT, if my dad takes me into a press conference, I just might surprise him and tell him to answer Seabiscuit’s Jockey’s questions.
"Nomar may be viewed as a Superstar, but don’t believe that the rumors of him being a cancer won’t hurt his value. As will the takeoff of the BoSox without him. As will the achillies injury."
The achilles concern is legit, although considering he plays almost every day now, and will have an entire offseason to rest it, it can harldy hurt his value. Vlad Guerrero had a legit back injury and it didn’t hurt his value any.
As for the clubhouse cancer and Boston taking off without him stuff, I hope you were kidding. Nomar had never been a clubhouse cancer prior to this year, and hasn’t been one since joining the Cubs. And Boston taking off without him? Well, every team A-Rod leaves immediately becomes a playoff contender…but it doesn’t hurt his value any.
Dear Cubs,
Thank you for getting me out of Boston. Also thank you for showing me why I should not sign with you. Wrigley is cool, the fans are great, but I must go after this year. Mia and I plan to have children and we do not want them to suffer through daddy playing with a shitty team. Best regards,
Nomar
Don’t blame Hendry for any of this. Everyone, from SI to every damn baseball fan, thought the Cubs looked good at the beginning of the year. Look at the past performances (the only thing Hendry really has to go on) of the players he signed this season: Lee, Maddux, Walker, Hawkins. In fact, his only stretch was Barrett, and he’s been more than you’d ask for. Then, when it wasn’t clicking he gets f’ing Nomar. No, this disgrace falls squarely on Dusty and the players.
Damn, my "friend" Jen Jen Capriati is losing the U.S. Open semis to a Commie dyke! What the hell’s going on with an all-foreign U.S. Open?
Down 7-0 in the 7th??
Time for me to hit one out buddy!!!!!!
According to #190 (who may also be you, for all I know), Nomar leaving would guarantee that the Cubs take off in 2005.
And Dave B, you’re blaming Hendry for this? That’s pretty cheap. Hendry did a great job last year and this year. This one’s on the players and the manager.
Andy, can we panic now?
I didn’t say the rumors were true, only that the rumors would hurt his value.
Relative to me, anyway.
Nomar turned down 60 mil over 4. He won’t get 60 mil for the rest of his career.
Andy, can we panic NOW??
ANDY, CAN WE PANIC NOW?!?!?!
No, the rumors won’t hurt his value, because major league GMs don’t need to rely on rumors. If anyone can find out what the real story on a ballplayer is, it’s a major league GM.
I blame Chip and Steve.
PANICKING…
BRREEEEEEAAA UUUUUHHHHH
BREEEEEEAAAA UUUUUHHHHHH
BRREEEEAAAAA UUUUUHHHHHHHH
Any good high school games tonight, Sloth?
anymore? The team sure doesn’t. Dusty doesn’t. Sammy sure doesn’t even seem like he cares about setting his 40 home run record.
When the Cubs finally do break through, I’ll be playing center.
What’s really killed this team this year — the injuries or the team’s poor play (B.C.’s catch-all clichéd "lack of focus/determination")?
I’d say in the injuries. Prior and Wood seemingly aren’t recovered, and you have had injuries to Sosa, Ramirez, Grudz, ____[Rotating SS], and 100% of the bullpen (minus LaTroy) at one time or another.
If the team were healthy, I believe they’d have a good 10 more wins and the wild card would almost be wrapped up.
The poor play is frustrating, but it hasn’t cost 10 games in my estimation. Five or six, maybe, but the majority of the gaffes were in blowouts or games that would have had the Cubs losing by 2 instead of losing by 4 (i.e., not impacting the final outcome).
I almost cringe when I hear my brain say ‘I hope the Cubs don’t make the playoffs so they can rest everyone a full five months,’ but I fear that is the only answer to getting everyone healthy and back in serious contention in ’05.
The Marlins haven’t seen something blow like this since me.
AWESOME!!
Hendry did a good job for the most part, and he couldn’t have predicted some of this team’s failings, like Sosa turning into Rob Deer and Alou’s brain falling out, but you can blame him for the bullpen. He’s been trying to fix it for 2 years, and it cost us a pennant last year and a lot of games this year. Other than that, the rest of the blame goes to Johnnie B. and his boys.
Let’s hurry up and get this game over with.
by poor play? Do you mean out of the last ten?
#211, Joliet Catholic vs. St. Patricks. Both are 2-0 with good offenses.
There’s a reason why Derrek Lee was traded two times before he was 29. His numbers were built in June and early July. The Rotisserie thing is a good analogy. A lot of these guys will have decent glamour numbers at the end of the season.
As for Michael Barrett, yeah, his offensive numbers are better than Miller’s, but some could question how well he’s handled this pitching staff. He’s not exactly a brick wall behind the plate, either.
Hawkins was forced to pitch outside of his role. He’s a set-up guy, not a closer. However, he’s been sort of a jerk and he didn’t come through.
Walker was a good acquisition, but signing Grud too allowed Dusty to play him instead of the much-better offensive player.
Hollandsworth was a great singning, but was too dumb to wear a shin-guard.
And I love Summer Sanders in that little black dress.
You can’t blame me for the bullpen. LaTroy was good when I signed him, Remlinger was good when I signed him, Farnsworth was good last year, Borowski was good last year, I got rid of Antonio Alfonseca, I signed Kent Mercker…
Not my fault!
I would rather have Nomar over Renteria…
BUT, if the Cubs go for Renteria, they can drive the price up for him and make him unsignable for the Cardinals, who have too many millions of dollars signed into their Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds contracts (Plus the money they’ll have to give Walker next year). Yeah, they are great players, but the Cardinals are also in the middle of building a little thing called a new stadium. Their payroll isn’t going up, and in fact may have to go down. I think Nomar is the top priority, but if the price is over what is a realistic offer, then you go to Renteria… It helps the Cubs and it certainly hurts the Cardinals.
Somebody get Sloth a paper bag to breath into…
I think some of you are missing my point about Nomar. What’s being suggested is that, in a market with Nomar, Cabrerra, and Me in it, the fact that Nomar’s first team did better without him and with Cabrerra, that he didn’t provide a huge boost to his new tea, the rumors, his injury history, et al….
With all that, his market value is going to be lower than it was a year ago. And he’ll be lower in market value than me. Should Caberra have a hot fall, Nomar could be third in terms of market value.
Who you putting the money on, Sloth?
And don’t forget I traded that cancer Juan Cruz. He’s been awful this year.
Like by bringing in three guys over the last two years who had sub 2ERAs the season before (Mercker, Remlinger, and Hawkins)? I guess it would have been nice if he had gotten Gagne, though (sarcasm intended).
Barrett’s handled the staff just fine. The starters have a better ERA this year than last, I think. And you can hardly blame Barrett for Mark Prior and Kerry Wood missing significant time. But look what happened to Matt Clement’s ERA and Carlos Zambrano’s, from last season to this season. Looks like Barrett is doing fine, to me.
And you’re going to blame Hendry for Dusty being too dumb to play the better 2nd baseman? That’s retarded.
And, finally, why would you pick on Derrek Lee? Because he’s had a bad day? Lee’s been a fantastic pickup.
#211, thought about catching my alma mater vs. the hillbillies from the next town over (Coal City vs. Reed Custer)
The mighty Trojans play in Hansen stadium on the west side tomorrow
As for the suburbanites, I highly recommend Joliet Catholic hosting St Patricks, and Marengo is at Winnebago for you Rockford area fans.
I’m not blaming Hendry for all of this, but I was suggesting that it’s probably time to look for some guys who can do more than just yank the ball out of the yard every 4-5 games. And maybe get some pitchers who know how to change speeds and location instead of throwing every ball down the middle at 95 mph.
My comment on 5 or 6 games lost to poor play refers specifically to games directly impacted by an error. Listless or corpse-like play (as of late) is an epidemic of an entire game and not hinging on one play.
Uh, didn’t you all want Juan Cruz gone? Funny how things change.
As for Derrek Lee being traded twice, you think it’s because he sucks? I think it’s because the Padres wanted to acquire Kevin Brown, then one of the best pitchers in the game, and because the Marlins couldn’t afford to pay him the money he was worth, and wanted to get something for him.
our hits out number our errors
You talking about me, Dave B? I only exist in your memory. You’ll never see me in Cubby Bloo ever again.
I am not going to blame Hendry either. When he got them, Alou, Ramirez, Lee and Nomar all were regarded as "complete" hitters who made contact. The only true one-outcome guy we had is Sosa, and of course, he was a Himes pick.
Someone on here is saying that because the Red Sox are hot and the Cubs are not, I am going to make more money in free agency than Nomar.
I’m me, and even I think that’s a retarded thing to say.
Chip is already blaming the shadows in Game 2 for a poor performance against the Marlins rookie. What a moran.
The Cubs are moving their Class A Midwest League team back to Peoria in 2005.
I am going to referee a high school football game tonight, and I am NOT gonna be in a very good mood.
I just saved a fuckload of money by switching my car insurance to GEICO.
"And maybe get some pitchers who know how to change speeds and location instead of throwing every ball down the middle at 95 mph."
That sounds like Greg Maddux to me. Hmmm… Hendry brought him in.
I’ll be at North Chicago at Libertyville. The North Suburban used to be a weak conference, but not anymore. Although Stevenson was spanked by Naperville Central last week, the Libertyvilles handled LW Central and McHenry handily, and Warren destroyed New Trier before losing to Maine South on a last-second TD pass.
North Chicago and Libertyville each have 3 awesome backs.
Then again, my OPS with the Red Sox is 15 points lower than Nomar’s. I’m younger, healthier and better defensively. Maybe it’s not so stupid.
I’ve had a great year. I spent several months hitting south of .240.
I am valuable!
Can Ron pronounce me?
The Germans are bombing Pearl Harbor…so it’s over right.
https://www.desipio.com/archives/00000705.htm
The NFC scouting reports are up.
Guess this whole thing is my fault then.
You Cubs stick!
Quit giving me all that crap.
I mean, I won one World Series and managed in another.
(Whispers in background.)
Oh, wait, my teams blew that World Series ring… AND a 3-1 NLCS series lead???
Yes, I’m a dumb***.
Sarge, remember when you walked 100 times, only hit 14 homers but knocked in 100 guys, hit .291 and hit hard line drives all over the place in 1984?
That was awesome.
You can’t teach hitting worth a shit though!
I’ll be downing a fifth of jack and throwing it through the TV after the Cubs get shutout by a Class A ragarm. Dog kicking and wife beating to follow.
Hey Mia! You found that out, too?
WE were vaunted in game one. We will blow game two.
Can we not be associated with this team?
Cindy, we stunk, but you sucked. And you were tremendous at it.
Well, thank God it wasn’t a one-run game. If the Cubs lose too many more one-run games they are automatically eliminated from the Playoffs, no questions asked.
So, in a way, this was a good loss.
Right?
Oh, but we’re down 7.
I will save us from being shut out, buddy.
Yikes.
Are we blaming this one on not having Kenny Lofton, too?
please bench Sosa, please!!!!!
Instead of a seventh inning stretch, I will be leading the crowd in a rousing Tea Time.
Also, I will be no-hitting the Cubs because not only have they never seen me or heard of me, but I’ve neevr even actually played baseball before.
God save the queen, go Fish!
Brains! mmmmmmm Brains!
Actually, I’m blaming this one on not having Eric Karros.
Ahhhhhhhhhh…………..ahhhhhhhhhhh………..Nomar
A fitting end to this game:
Sammy, going for the 700-foot homer, striking out.
Egads.
If God has any mercy we’ll either go on a 10-game win streak or we’ll just tank it now.
I think this is Chris Boden’s fault.
Only 18 more wins needed out of the next 25.
Gotta play 11 over to get to 10 over.
Tricky!
Where is it…..the hell with it!!!
Here is what we learned from the Cubs about good baseball today:

Great stuff!
The game 2 lineup is laughable. What a fucking joke. Baker is an idiot. I’m not watching this one.
Hey, someone let me out of the closet in the lockeroom. PLEASE!!!
What is Baker thinking?
what channel is it on?
ESPN 8, I believe.
I can’t find it
Missed portions of the lineup, but it includes Neifi Perez batting second, Jose Macias in right batting 7th. Woo hoo
1.Corey Patterson-CF
2.N. Perez-SS
3.Alou-LF
4.E-Ramis-3B
5.Lee-1B
6.Grud-2B
7.Macias-RF
8.Bako-C
9.Prior
Let’s just say the lineup has Bako, Perez, and Macias in it.
No Barrett, Nomar, or Sammy.
Is Dusty trying to get fired?
That’s odd, everybody who played game 1 for the Marlins is playing game 2, except for LoDuca.
Same as first game, less LoDuca, McKeon said everyone will rest in November
Dude, didn’t you guys see the great effort those guys put out in game 1. I can’t ask them to play again today, they might die of exhaustion.
F#@$ all of you.
I’m not watching this. Though, a marked improvement in that a hitter actually made it to third.
Sorry guys I missed such a pathetic game. I was out of town at an LPGA event at Victoria National in Newburgh, IN. It was a beautiful golf course.
Then I turn on the Cubs and hear we’re down 7-0. That about made me throw up. On top of that I hear Ramirez and Alou didn’t start the game. Dusty up to his old ignorant tricks again. Boys, you know my feelings all along about that worthless sac of manure. The guy is a sorry son of a bitch. He’s a pathetic leader.
T.J. Brown you’re starting to sound like me. I definitely like the sounds of those beers.
Just thank god for football season. That’s the only salvation. My Colts even got beat last night. They reminded me of the Cubs. Let’s just fumble the ball a couple times and miss a field goal to lose the game. Pathetic.
Well I’m heading to a high school football game tonight. My old school is trying to snap another school unbeatable regular season winning streak. If they’re anything like the Cubs, that other team will keep their winning streak.
Good luck with following this second game. I’d say get the rope out and hang yourself.
After this weekend, get ready to pick a new team to root for in the playoffs.
Serenity now…
But I’m clutch!
Just let me know when you want to take me up on it, Basher. This is absolutely ridiculous!
I’m serious when I say this…
Jim Hendry should go down to that Wrigley dugout/clubhouse right now and fire Dusty’s *** on the spot for incompetence.
What a joke.
Bako, Perez and Macias. I don’t mind Baker not playing Sosa. But play Dubois you stupid ass.
Nomar should suck it up and play. Barrett I’ll cut a little slack to. Catching 18 innings isn’t easy.
But Baker, we hope as fans, will manage 1 more year at most. This guy is horrible. I’ve been saying that this whole year. He just doesn’t get it. These are the Cubs. You have to manage them differently. You can’t play the numbers, you can’t pamper guys, you have to go with who’s hot and who’s got the heart to play. It doesn’t matter if it’s a rookie and it doesn’t matter if it’s a veteran. Whoever will get the job done at that particular time. Not, let’s see, he’s due to come around, we’re due to reel off 10 wins. Dusty, it doesn’t happen that way you stupid ignornant dumb fuck asswhole.
I hope you get gonerreaa and burn in hell.
Take dat Teee Jay!
T.J. Brown,
I’ll let you know. Bako for an RBI hit.
B.C.
I’ll second your statement about firing Dusty on the spot.
RBI, bitch!
Sweet Jesus! Situational hitting!
Looks like Jack McKeon wants to go to the hotel for his nap.
Hey Jack, I can give you a ride back, I’m about to leave.
1. Say, as if it’s profound, that the Marlins think Carl Pavano should win the Cy Young award.
2. Say that scoring a run early in this ballgame makes up for the Bartman play.
3. Get REALLY REALLY excited about a weak groundout back to the pitcher.
Is anybody going to the series in Cincy on the weekend of the 18th?
I’ll actually be at the game on Saturday rooting on these dumbasses.
How much do you think my ticket would go for?
I might take an assault rifle and try to assasinate Baker. Oh, just kidding. I’m not that good a shot.
"I’d say get a new team to root for in the playoffs"
I said that because as a true Cubs fan, I know that once the playoffs start, if the Cubs aren’t in it, true Cubs fans pick a random team to root for instead of the Cubs. I know all this, because I am a true Cubs fan.
Just wondering, but every time the Cubs do anything everybody (especially Chip) worries about firing up the other team. How about the Marlins sending out a class A pitcher to take on Mark Prior?
Yes, those are straws I’m grasping at.
What’s Jim Riggelman doing right now? Maybe he could get us in the playoffs like 1998. Maybe he could get something out of Sosa too. We need some kind of change with this team. I’ve just about to the end with this team. I hate these guys. I can you hate a team so bad that you’ve actually liked for whatever reason for years. It makes you sick.
P.S. I feel like I’m playing catch up for that first game. I guess that’s why I’m sounding so negative.
Shut the fuck up.
Anybody have other ideas for this team to start playing some serious ball?
I really am grasping for straws literally.
We’re barely beating a single A pitcher right now. Keep that in mind.
Basher how did those old bitches look at the LPGA event? I bet Sosa would whiff a golf ball three times in a row.
If my posts don’t look stupid immediately after I post them, just wait a few minutes.
Would someone please tell Chippy that his constant Bartman references/jokes aren’t funny or cute. In fact would someone just tell Chip to go fuck himself.
So, we’re looking at a split today…did anyone really think anything different was going to happen?
Let’s see what happens Saturday and Sunday before you lift that last spade of dirt.
What the hell is going on? I was expecting the Cubs to roll over and die in game 2. I was gonna sit down, have a good cry and a beer and then get on with my life. But what’s this?? The Cubs score nine runs but FIVE of them NOT with long balls??? Neifi F. Perez and Zsa Zsa Bako combine to CREATE A RUN?? Pansy Prior is pitching into the 7th without having walked anybody?? Why prolong the agony?? WHY WHY WHY???
Now this is a fine collection of baseball super-star-power names right here:
Bottom 7th B:2 S:2 O:2
Calvin Murray singles on a soft ground ball to third baseman Lenny Harris. Paul Bako scores.
We’re a combined 9/11 in Game 2. FEAR US PUNY MORTALS!
I am the King!!! If Anderson got a pizza, I better find a hooker when I get home.
In retrospect, maybe we shouldn’t have started a single A pitcher against a MLB team, even the Cubs.
I am a hitting guru!
I can rescue this bullpen. Put me in Dusty!
Astros lose in Pittsburgh, 6-1.
Go Big Unit vs. SF!!!
Gimme back my money!
Not to fire on B.C., but the fact that three of the worst players in baseball (Jose Macias, Paul Bako, and Neifi Perez) combined for a 9-12 day with three RBIs and four runs (against a team that would have tied the Cubs in the wild card chase with a win) is proof that, over the course of 162 games, anything can happen. On top of it the Cubs were facing their ultimate nemesis: a pitcher they had never seen.
The four-hit shutouts against bad pitchers suck, but they just happen.
Astros lose to the Battlin’ Buccos and the Giatns lose to the Dreadful D-Backs. Someone named Doug Devore hits a two-run jack for Arizona in the 7th for the win.
Riggs, just don’t take away my AGGRESSIVENESS!
The fact of the matter is in the second game, the Marlins were dumb enough to try and win with a single A pitcher. Jack McKeon tried to pull a Dusty on us and it didn’t work. Jack you’re an old bastard, you should be smarter then that. You won it all last year.
Secondly, I did say play the scrubs that have heart and they might acutally do better. Well guess what, they did. Bako, Perez, and Macias actually played stellar.
Sammy really needs to look in the mirror and see that Bako is hitting better then him at this point. Sammy then needs to jump off a bridge into the Chicago River and help us all.
Dolan, you really need to take the Bako meter down and replace it was a Sosa Sucks Meter. I think the fans would really dig that one.
Dusty needs to have a sit down with Sammy and say, "Hey Sammy, We’re going to shut you down for the year and that’s final. This team has too much at stake to have your ass faultering in the wind. You’re done and we’re going to win this wild card thing."
However you know this won’t happen because Baker’s balls are as small as the paremecium circulating right now in the Chicago River.
We need Zambrano and Rusch these next 2 days to come out and pitch with a pair. We hope the wind is blowing out and hit about 4 homeruns a game and call it a 3-1 series in favor of the Cubs.
That just might jump start this team yet. The sad thing is that the scrubs might actually be the leaders of this team.
I guess whatever it takes to win this wild card thing.
I’d sit both Alou and Sosa the rest of the way out, and play Walker in LF, Dubois in RF. Aramis plays every day until his groin falls off, Nomar plays every day until his heel explodes. I take Macias and Badwin into the woods and kill them slowly with a blunt knife.
Hey, we know Alou won’t be back, but if I sit Sam-Me every day, maybe he’ll demand a trade and leave in the offseason? Or just take his millions, quit and retire? Or jump off of Meig’s Pier. Or something.
Saturday will be looked back upon as The Turning Point. An absolutely HUGE win.
I wonder if that turd Pavano left tickets for Bartman today.
Lets hope so Dave (the turning point, not Pavano leaving tickets). I am starting to give up even trying to figure out this team, especially after the pair of games yesterday, and the first 7 and last 2 innings today.
Still watching Hawk strike out the side 1-2-3 (on 9 pitches no less), and with the Cubs now at worst, tied with only SF, it does feel as good as Monday’s and Tuesday’s games feel bad.
We should be sponsors for Cubs games.
22
What is the purpose of the cutoff man?
Unless something seriously changes in the next 20-something games, the story of this year’s team will be an inability to finish off big wins and finish off teams contending with them.
The game in June at Busch, the bullpen blowup against the Cardinals in the game at Wrigley we led big, the Astros’ series, and now this game today.
Ugh…
I do not recommend any legislative action against hermeneutics. I am a liberal person opposed to all unnecessary state limitation of individual liberties. Hermeneutics between consenting adults should not in my view be the object of any statutory restrictions. I know, only too well, what it would entail. Hermeneutic speakeasies would spring up all over the place, smuggled Thick Descriptions would be brought in by the lorry-load from Canada by the Mafia, blood and thick meaning would clot in the gutter as rival gangs of semiotic bootleggers slugged it out in a series of bloody shoot-outs and ambushes. Addicts would be subject to blackmail. Consumptions of deep meanings and its attendant psychic consequences would in no way diminsh, but the criminal world would benefit, and the whole fabric of civil society would be put under severe strain. Never! by party poker
The truth is that capitalism has not only multiplied population figures, but at the same time, improved the people’s standard of living in an unprecedented way. Neither economic thinking nor historical experience suggest that any other social system could be as beneficial to the masses as capitalism. by generic cialis

Judges and legislators seem frequently to have had quite insanely distorted views about what is a proper proportion between the crime and the punishment. For unfair, harsh and even positively barbarous practices have often enough been enshrined in law. Our moral reformer might back up his case with a short reading list, which could include, e.g. What Nearly Happened to Galileo; What Actually Happened to the Gunpowder Conspirators; A Short History of the Navy; For the Term of His Natural Life (by Marcus Clarke, 1874); and Oscar Wilde’s two letters to the Daily Chronicle (1897). by poker rooms
