Title: The Fuck You Carlos Silva thread
Post by: Yeti on December 18, 2009, 12:14:39 PM
Fuck you, you fat fucking piece of shit (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/46799-seattle-mariners-clubhouse-in-turmoil)

QuoteRecently many of these frustrations have been coming to a head, and players have begun throwing each other under the bus publicly.

This all started about a week ago when Carlos Silva mouthed off to the media about how the pitchers have all been showing up focused, and ready to go, while the batters are playing lackadaisically.

Really?  The batters are to blame for you being possibly the worst starting pitcher in the major leagues.  You lead the AL in losses, and have a dispicable ERA of 5.93.  I would say you should look in the mirror before blaming others for your shortcomings.

Silva was brought in to be a veteran leader in the clubhouse, and to solidify the pitching staff.  Leaders typically do not blame other players on the team publicly.  Generally, they lead by example, take due blame, or if needed to, call out players behind closed doors.

Nice choice, Jim.

So we're replacing a hitter who runs his mouth, is a "clubhouse cancer", butts heads with the team and fans, and basically is an all-around douche with a pitcher who also runs his mouth, is also a "clubhouse cancer", who also butts heads with the team and fans, and is also an all-around douche.  Great.  Yes, this is much better.

http://www.mlbnotebook.com/2009-articles/april/carlos_silva_is_mean.html

QuoteCarlos Silva came out of the training room and I asked how his back was. He'd had spasms a night earlier, come out of the game after gritting his teeth on each pitch the final two innings - and Silva had won.

So I asked the question, and he ignored me and kept walking. Sometimes, players are focused and don't hear you. Sometimes, they ignore you.

A few minutes later, Silva walked back across the clubhouse and as he passed, I asked again, 'How's your back this morning?'
"Good," he said, and kept moving.

Not exactly expansive, but straight forward. About two minutes later, MLB.com writer Jim Street entered the clubhouse and glanced around, then asked who was winning the card game. We beat guys don't miss a thing.

"They both are," I told him.

Street saw Silva across the room and asked me, "How's Carlos feeling?"
I told him Carlos might not be in a talkative mood, explaining our brief conversation. Silva came walking over, angry.

"If you have something to say to me, say it to me, don't tell him," he said. "You're always stirring up poo."

Ok, he didn't say poo. Close enough.

"I was trying to save him and you time," I told Silva.

"You're always stirring up poo," he said. "That's why I don't talk to you."

I stared at him. A confused beat guy does that. Carlos had never not talked to me before.

"Don't ever ask me for another interview," Silva said and walked away.

I turned to Street.

"See what you started?" I asked. I thought about accusing him of stirring up poo.

And that, sometimes, is life in the clubhouse.

My new goal for 2010 is to get close enough to the field so I can berate Carlos Silva so badly that I get banned from Wrigley for life and he goes home and puts his head in the oven.

Maybe Silva will get hit in the eye socket with a baseball. The force of the ball entering his socket would be so great that the ball would be forever fused with his skull, thus he would forever have a baseball instead of an eye. Then we could make fun of his mom.

Speaking of poor contracts ... here's the scary thing: Silva not only tops this contact rate in 2005, but he does even worse at missing bats in 2009. Yeah, Silva at his best gets groundballs and avoids walks – and yes, that is a successful formula – but at the same time, Silva posted xFIP of 3.94, 4.81, and 4.57 before signing his four-year, $48M poison pill that the Cubs swallowed. Nick Blackburn can only hope Bill Bavasi is a general manager when he reaches free agency.

It is? Well, I guess I'll have to pop Oleg in the back of the head when he starts making out with some chick this Friday.

Anyway, they've been doing a little series on the contact percentages over the years. They started in 02 and have made their way through 04. I just found it funny how much Silva got pounded (by making no one miss at his pitches) and yet Seattle signed him to his 4/48 contract after this season.

What's xFAP?  Some sort of made-up masturbatory stat?

That would be xFWAPFWAP

I'd like to see one of those faggstats that can show how good Silva will be once Rothschild fixes him! He's like a swarthy Latino Glendon Rusch!

If Rothschild does manage to fix him, I would think that'd be grounds for the Cubs to retain him for quite some time, and hell, even retire his number. (http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/source-cubs-would-retire-dawsons-number.html) A guy who doesn't know what K is besides his bra size being a viable asset on a strikeout staff? That would be something.

I read that post and I don't really understand what they're trying to say or show with the percentages.  Best and worst what?  Is there some other post that explains what they're trying to say?

Contact Percentage (Contact) – The percentage of times a batter hits the ball when he swings the bat.

In this case, the contact % for batters faced.  Obviously lower % is better, but you can't really look at it
in a vacuum because there's a balance w/ throwing strikes, how good of contact batters make, and what
not.  In general, if you contact % is approaching the same as a home run derby pitcher, it's a bad sign.

Contact% is the percentage of plate appearances where the final outcome was a ball in play.  A batter can swing/miss on two pitches, but if he grounds out to short (or lines a hit to short left) on the third, his contact% is 100--not 33.

Edit: Nevermind. That's incorrect. As you were.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-worst-contract-in-baseball

It's pretty sweet that we have 2 out of the 4 guys on this list.

"I was having a debate a few days ago across twitter with some folks and figured it worth bringing up here. Evan Longoria is likely the best contract in baseball. It's just obscene, in a good way, for the Rays. But who is the worst? Not talking about ever, or worst at the time, just worst as it stands right now in January of 2010. Which player would you least like on your team going forward, or who do you think would be the most difficult to trade?

I would have nominated Carlos Silva, but apparently he wasn't that difficult to trade, thank you Cubs, and it would have been more of a biased suggestion than a real one. It's an awful contract, but it does only have two years left on it. No, I think in the debate for worst contract left in baseball, it comes down to three contenders.

Barry Zito has four guaranteed years left on his contract with a total payout of $76 million and then either an $18 million club option or a $7 million buyout for a minimum for $83 million left to be paid. He also comes with a full no-trade clause. Zito, as mentioned yesterday, has produced 5.3 WAR so far for San Francisco. At least he is sort of trending upwards?

Going back to the Cubs, Alfonso Soriano has five years, a full no-trade clause and $90 million left on his deal. He started off promising with a 5.6 win season in 2007 but fell to 3.1 wins in 2008 and then a horrendous -0.7 last year. The defense has taken about a 15-run hit each consecutive year and the offense has been trending downward as well.

Vernon Wells also has the benefit of a full no-trade clause and due to his protracted signing bonus, is actually owed a whopping $107 million over the remaining five years of his contract. Since his 5.8 win 2006 season, after which his extension was signed, Wells has been worth 0.9, 1.3 and -0.1 wins. His offense has always been sporadic, but his fielding has really taken a hit lately, being well below average the last two seasons.

So, weighing those, who is worst, Zito, Wells or Soriano? Or is there someone else that you think is even more of a dead weight?"

Yeah, I don't wanna hear any of this ledge jumper bullshit either. Carlos Silva sucks and he's always going to suck. My friend mentioned him today and stopped himself short of saying he's hoping Silva resurrects himself. He quickly realized that you can't resurrect yourself if you've never been good.

I plan to have no mercy on this fat jerkoff. I hope, for your sakes, that I can be a little more clever and interesting about it than our old pal Lonestar was on a day to day basis.

If the Cubs actually manage to not suck next year, then every Silva inning will anger me,
but if they live down to my Lowered Expectations (<-- that would be a fancy url to a picture

Well, his 6 runs in 2 innings couldn't have helped.  I don't know how the Rickets will
handle situations like this with sunken costs, but on the telecast Len&Bob were throwing
him under the bus for being fat and lazy which generally isn't a good sign for the player's

Carlos Silva will be a Cub. Warm up the vocal chords people. I'm not backing down from anything I said earlier in this thread.

I'm not sure how I'm going to feel if this guy is, you know, good and stuff.

But I'm confident I won't have the chance to find out.

What a moron.

If I was an opposing manager, anytime in spring training when a team pitched a total PoS like
Silva I'd tell my hitters to make him look good.  And I'd tell my pitchers to make garbage like
Millar look good.  Sabotage.

I caught Silva's act in person yesterday from a pretty tits-out seat behind the screen at Ho Ho Kam. I'll say this, the way he dominated handled that Padre split squad unit, I have absolutely no doubt that he would be an absolutely brilliant addition to the Iowa rotation this year.

Depends on who you ask. Ask a typical Cubs fan, they'll say that Z's Clubhouse Presence doesn't match up with one Silva thus rendering him useless on the mound, and allowing him to give up home run after home run.

Let's not ignore the fact that in all honesty, Z may be have become extremely hittable.  I'm only arguing that he can't be worse than what Silva's regressing toward for the next 3 months.

I think Silva needs a couple weeks to get that problem behind his knee calmed down. I know that watching Cubs baseball is very difficult for most of us to do these days. But what actually happened in real life is that Silva left his start two weeks ago in Phoenix with some sort of pull behind his left(?) knee. There was debate whether he'd make his start vs. L.A. and even in warmups you saw him landing awkwardly on that leg and not bending over (||) and driving through. Consequently pitches lost velocity, hung up in the zone and got whacked (||). So he had the All-Star Break and four days to recover but didn't. It's not like he's regressing to suck, but it's that he's Carlos Silva and something is physically wrong again.

The Cubs need somebody to take a couple of starts so the question remains who or whom or what. I vote Kevin Hart.

Because when he starts he sucks and when he relieves he's good? Could be that he only has two pitches that work and the curve stops surprising people the second or third time through the order? Could be that he lacks stamina. Could be that he hates us too.

I know he's probably worn down from all of the wear and tear, and his fastball is consequently much more hittable, and he can be kind of a crazy asshole, but I'm thinking this Carlos Zambrano guy might do better than what was given last night, yes?

Why do Cubs fans hate Sean Marshall?

Because when he starts he sucks and when he relieves he's good? Could be that he only has two pitches that work and the curve stops surprising people the second or third time through the order? Could be that he lacks stamina. Could be that he hates us too.

Could be.  I guess Cashner could start a few games, but then he'd be required to throw some strikes every so often.

I'd have more sympathy for Silva if I didn't think his knee issues were related to him being a fatass who hasn't made any attempt to get himself into shape.

I like the youth movement idea, but these kids aren't really being asked to play in a low pressure, get experience scenario.
They are being asked to make an immediate impact and if they do, we're right back in it. What a joke.

Jayj Ackson?

I like the youth movement idea, but these kids aren't really being asked to play in a low pressure, get experience scenario.
They are being asked to make an immediate impact and if they do, we're right back in it. What a joke.

I know he's probably worn down from all of the wear and tear, and his fastball is consequently much more hittable, and he can be kind of a crazy asshole, but I'm thinking this Carlos Zambrano guy might do better than what was given last night, yes?
