OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

It's pretty impressive how quickly they flushed all the goodwill that came from ending a 108 year World Series drought. If they sold the team today, there would be celebrations all over the city.

That's the problem with promising a perennial contender. People get pissed when you stop trying to contend.

I enjoy my twitter interactions with the Desidiots. (Desipiots?) Is it just me, or am I a less obnoxious asshole than I used to be?

I had THE DREAM again, or a version of it.  The one where I am back in college and I have to get to a final exam but I can't find the room or the building where the exam was being given.  Only last night in THE DREAM I had five term papers to write and only three days to get them all done.  Furthermore, I didn't have a typewriter (remember I was in college 65 or seventy years ago and personal computers hadn't been invented.)  Why can't I have the dream where I can fly anymore?

I had a dream last year, brought on by a distraught parent whose tween daughter had stopped listening to her, that my son was 12 years old and hated me. Thing about it was, I actually didn't remember the dream after I woke up. I got up, took my son to his daycare for a half day, and as I dropped him off, I realized I couldn't shake a nagging feeling I had and that I'd possibly had a dream about him. It wasn't until he came home from daycare a few hours later that I remembered it, and when it hit me, I just started sobbing. For about an hour.

Stress dreams suck.

I frequently have a particular live version of the Avett Brothers song "Laundry Room" bouncing around in my head. Considering that anytime I've heard them play it live, I get chills down my spine, I'm ok with this.

Tonight I'll burn the lyrics
'Cause every chorus was your name

Funny thing is -- that tends to be the verse that floats around in my head. You too?

See, it really helps to describe what it is rather than posting blind links. Viz., SUPYAD.

Are you saying, you didn't know if I was going to rickroll you? That was the point - take a leap of faith and click the link, if you haven't.

Man, how bout that Henry Cavill, thou!

Yeah, the first season of the Witcher was frigging amazing. I started reading the books after, and ended up buying a Switch pretty much explicitly to play Witcher 3.

I have to say I'm happy for the distraction. In a summer where nothing is normal, it's a tiny little window into a semblance of normalcy. I've seen the Cubs bullpen and I have no expectations, except that this might be the last hurrah for the core players who won us a ring.

I feel like the odds of the season being completed are slim, but I'll be watching every damned game in the meantime. Baseball has definitely been one of the things I've missed the most this summer.

The Dead Pool / I am Deadicus

You brought that title on yourselves. I waited and waited for someone else to post this.

Kirk Douglas was 103. He's also #3 on my Deadpool 2020 list, although I'm suspecting the dead pool is no longer a thing?

Nick Castellanos.
The Cubs let Castellanos go and kept Souza.  I guess the front office is allergic to luxury tax.  I think that this is because the team just can't sell enough tickets.

I'm pretty sure selling tickets will be a problem this year. Lots of anecdotal posts on social media about people unexpectedly receiving offers to buy season tickets - sounds to me like people are losing faith and interest.

Such a disappointment - we have the best core that this team has had in many decades, and the front office/ownership is fucking it all up by refusing to shore up the holes. I'm surprised Epstein and Hoyer haven't bailed at this point for a team that actually lets them do their jobs.

Am I the only one?  It seems to me that the relief pitchers that the Cubs are acquiring have one thing in common.  They are all coming off injuries and have spent most of the previous season on the disabled list.   Cobble 4 or 5 of them together and you may get one whole pitcher.

We might be at the beginning of a terrible Frankenstein spin off B movie.

That was the Hendry strategy. Roll the dice on cheap, damaged arms, with big upside. It occasionally worked, but mayyyybe not the hallmark of a winner?
