OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Paperback Writer / Double Down: Game Change 2012
August 05, 2013, 11:19:43 AM
I wish this weren't the actual name of this book and was instead just some hilarious prank on me, but it is and it's not.

http://www.amazon.com/Double-Down-Game-Change-2012/dp/1594204403/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1375710576&sr=1-1&keywords=double+down+game+change+2012

I await the Forkjokes.

Or so say the major broadcast networks.

The primary thrust of the piece is that the major networks are begging for the FCC to loosen up their tight restrictions on obscenities because aside from the vagueness and vagaries of the rules, new mechanics for parental control of content, and the pesky bitch of a First Amendment with its broad "...make no law" mandate, no one is watching their crap anyway.

It's the anti-West Wing.  Kevin Spacey plays his role perfectly, breaking the fourth wall to flesh out the details of the story.

David Fincher directed the first two episodes.  Robin Wright looks great and Kate Mara disrobes often.

It's only on Netflix.  Watch all 13.

I don't know why, but this was one of the featured movies during our post-Thanksgiving gathering.  It's a movie about a young woman who reunites with her family after escaping from a Jones-esque sex cult in upstate New York.

It was an incredibly powerful and, at times, gut-wretching movie with an interesting plot (almost as good as An American Crime, which I thought was far more horrific).  The pacing is somewhat maddening, but the drama of the narrative is enough to overcome that.

Check it out; you may have to RedBox this one.

Paperback Writer / The Price of Politics

This is a new book from Bob Woodward regarding the debt limit crisis from last year.  It's an interesting read so far and the details about the negotiations are engrossing.

So, all in all, no one will probably read this but me.

I just received this game as a gift.  I'm really enjoying it.  It has an undeniably fascinating city as a backdrop and an engaging plot that one wants to follow through to the end.  The graphics are nowhere near Skyrim-level, despite this being a Bethesda production, but the action and character development are enough to supplement that deficiency.

In terms of plot, you play as a man named Corvo, the former chief bodyguard to an empress of a plague-infected, steampunk-esque, retro-London island empire.  You are framed for her murder, and the subsequent kidnapping of the heiress, but are offered an opportunity to escape from prison and seek revenge on the conspirators, all while becoming friends with an entirely new set of conspirators.  Your choices of stealth versus brute force determine the outcome of the game, of which there are several.

So buy it, jerks.

Next week, Assassin's Creed III.

Boobtube / American Horror Story

I caught the debut of this show.  Pretty good.  I'm worried that they may have too many plot elements going on at once.  It may be difficult to reconcile them in an entertaining manner.

Nevertheless, the young version of the maid is hot and Connie Britton still looks good.

But you do have to put up with a Dylan McDermott wanking scene, but you can skip that.

Not terrible.  Looks expensive, so I imagine they need consistently high ratings for Murdoch to keep it on the air.

Red-state Missouri school bans "Slaughterhouse Five" after parents complain.  The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library in Indianapolis is offering free copies to those suffering under the yoke of Christian parental oppression.

Help them, won't you?

Or use this to talk about Vonnegut.

EDIT: For TEC.

PS - Some here might doubt the claim that this is the "hardest" Simpsons quiz.

Saw it this weekend on Netflix streaming.  Good, original sci-fi.  Well worth it.

I won't spoil anything; go watch it.
