OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Trying to get your career back on track in Sioux City is, um, like, awesome

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/baseball/iowa-cubs/2017/06/08/josh-vitters-chicago-cubs-sioux-city-independent-league/376407001/

QuoteAs the 2007 draft loomed, the Cubs zeroed in on Vitters. Chicago scouting director Tim Wilken was the architect of the Cubs' draft plans.

"I wasn't the scouting director. I was the general manager. I always let the scouting director make those picks," Hendry explained.

...

"If he didn't go with the third pick, he was going (with) the fourth pick," Hendry said. "So it wasn't like everybody didn't love him."

"It's Tim Wilken and his ilk who sucks, not me," Hendry repeated as he curled into a ball on the floor.

And hilarity ensued.

...

...

...

By the way, if you guys have it somewhere in your hearts not to mention Brett Jackson ever again, I would appreciate it.

Damn it, I looked over my thoughts again and realized it did put Thom into a more favorable light.

I truly apologize from the bottom of my heart.

Any homer that gets Thom doing his best Sulkin Hawk Harrelson impersonation is a good one:
https://twitter.com/RonanOShea/status/855611279330902016?s=09

He's such a miserable bastard. I watched the Reds' feed for the bottom of the 8th and top of the 9th. He spent almost all of it being negative, nitpicky, snarky, sarcastic, and bitter. He was bitching about the Cubs questioning the home plate umpire on some of those strikes being called. He especially went after Schwarber and his color man added, "hashtag stop whining." They were oh-so-smug about winning. tHom also sounds like he thinks he's recording dialogue for a baseball video game. He'll say the same thing twice in a row but try it a different way, which usually means louder and even more condescendingly. Glad the Cubs broke his heart because their broadcast is a brutal listen.

I know there is plenty of previous history that might be playing a role in Thom's behavior during Cubs games, however I personally think the 2003 NLCS still ticks him off. He was five outs away from being the voice that would be heard for all eternity as the guy on the call when the Cubs finally won a pennant... And it was taken away from him.

Y'all cry an awful lot.

I've started to think there's something wrong with me for just smiling a lot about the Cubs winning a World Series instead of crying all the time.

To each their own. Not surprising that those of us most prone to feeling the DOOM and rage are also the ones most incapable of controlling our emotions when they actually do win it all. Don't care how you celebrate, point is we're celebrating together.

I was being earnest, so no judgment from me. I think I had always assumed it would be more emotional, but it's really just felt like, "That was a blast, let's do it again sometime!"

Tears have welled up in my eyes, but not streaming down my face and there has been no sobbing.

Honestly, making me cry at things I see on television isn't hard. There's multiple times I've cried at both the Simpsons and Futurama for chrissakes.

I still think the end of the Futurama episode with the dog that gets stuck in 2000 while Fry goes to the future is the single saddest couple minutes I've ever experienced. It took me an hour to quit crying the first time I watched that.

Colorado is reportedly interested in Dave Martinez for the manager's chair. Maybe Grandpa Rossy gets to hold on to his jersey.

I would be all for that, mostly to see Ross come out to the mound instead of the pitching coach whenever Lester runs into trouble.

He let Montero face Miller, he let Heyward bat in the 9th, and he didn't intentionally BB Davis with Miller on deck (enabling the wild pitch that moved Davis to 3rd). Joe's lack of urgency about anything really fucking blows.

Who was supposed to hit for Heyward? The bench was basically empty by that point.

Still had Almora and Ross (Well, Travis Wood also I guess). I like Ross the best out of those options, but it isn't exactly an open and shut case to pinch hit for Heyward there.

Not bunting with Zobrist in the 9th may have been the worst move of them all. I know Zobrist has been swinging well, but you HAVE to get that runner to second base.

I was a gusher until about 20 minutes ago. Guess I'm a softie.

This probably doesn't matter, but here goes - I'm always going to be honest about my opinions and my feelings. Last night, I was angry and disappointed about what I was seeing during the Cubs game. If you don't like what I'm Tweeting, then ignore it. Or block it. Or mute it. Or unfollow my Twitter account.

I said late last night and earlier today that I deserve criticism for some of what I said and for not watching the rest of the game. I'm a big boy and I can take it.

But I'm not going to apologize for being me. I am who I am, flaws and all.

OK, after tonight's win, the Cubs are 71-41 with 50 games left. Only 50 games left, friends.

STL  4-0

While I would enjoy nothing more than a 4-0 Cubs sweep, if the Cubs could just manage a 2-2 split this time that would be more than acceptable. Everyone was predicting a Cubs sweep in the last series and instead the Cardinals brought the broom.

Just get a split and let time work against the Cardinals. They don't have much time left in 2016.

(Also, nice to see you here BC)

My last post was three years ago.

So Tommy still has a while to report to Iowa. Or something.

Who the fucking hell is doing the play-by-play tonight? The closest thing I can come up with to compare to the dismayingly nasal delivery is Mandarin at its worst.

Jeff Joniak, who normally is ruining already terrible Bears games on the radio.

To make it clear I 100% think this is a really fucking stupid thing for La Stella to do, and he way overestimates his leverage (which is basically nonexistent, as you pointed out), I just think it's fair to acknowledge that he got jobbed and his anger was understandable, and that I also think it is hypocritical for people who will defend the Cubs making this move by saying "it's a business" to then chide La Stella for not putting the team first and just doing what he's told. He's part of the business, he can strike, and then eventually Theo will call in the Pinkertons and beat the living hell out of him.

La Stella has no leverage. If he doesn't play, then the Cubs have a flaw (They wouldn't have a left-handed pinch-hitter that could actually hit) but Joe Maddon seems to be creative enough to get around that problem.

I think the Cubs erred in demoting La Stella in favor of Coghlan, but at this point enough is enough. La Stella needs to report, and the sooner the better for everyone involved. And, especially, Tommy La Stella.
