OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

This is amazing. Who woulda thunk missing the playoffs in year 5 could be a thing

The injuries haven't helped, but the Q for Eloy trade is looking downright rancid right now, and the Kimbrel and Morrow signings...well...inexcusably awful.  The Dodgers and Red Sox wanted nothing to do with either pitcher, coming off of massively successful seasons.  You'd think that would be a massive signal to other teams, but Theo ignored it and got burned, badly.

The front office needs a major shakeup, and someone needs to figure out why we aren't developing pitching.  The Astros were basically in the same position as the Cubs 5 years ago.  The Yankees were in a worse position.  They now have the best two teams in baseball and an embarrassment of riches in the minors.  Here, the cupboard is bare, and the starting lineup is not even close to what the Dodgers, Yankees and Astros are fielding night in, night out.

We have Happ, Quintana, Morrow, Kimbrel, Hamels, Russell, and a bunch of key guys who are underperforming (Bryant and Rizzo (at least in terms of power)).  Building a lineup with the highest swing and miss rate takes something, but it's not skill.  To have this run differential and such a bad record tells you two things:

1. Your bullpen is trash and can't win close games.
2. Your offense doesn't show up at all far too often.

This is on the front office, and heads need to start rolling a week from Monday.

Someone equated the "sunk cost fallacy" to Trubisky as the "Bears QB fallacy."  That seems utterly correct.

This team could've had Mahomes, but the franchise's ability to identify QB talent is, well, almost Browns-esque.  I can't wait to see Nagy go the way of Trestman....and if Trubisky can beat out Blake Bortles for a clipboard holder spot in two years.

Are we ready to burn a ton of shit down yet?  Joe can't manage the pen.  Theo has mismanaged a WS Champ into an utter debacle with terrible trades and FA signings.

Bryant needed tonight to have an outside shot at 30 HR (he should be hitting 35-40).  Rizzo is regressing (not much, but it's still noticeable).  Schwarber remains an AL platoon DH.

Somehow the Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers have farm systems that are bottomless.  Christ, even the Cardinals are turning out quality starters.

What the fuck went wrong?  Why is the cupboard bare with this joke of a team to show for it?

This team is absolutely unwatchable right now.  It's quite apparent that management from the front office, to the dugout, have long overstayed their welcome.  With the dead money tied up in Darvish, Chatwood, Heyward, and Morrow, this team is unfixable in the short term, and quite possibly for the next 2 - 3 years.  And to think, with that money, they could have Jake and Harper.  Two guys that actually would contribute to winning.

Add in what they've traded away for trash like Quintana, and this team is in a far, far worse position than it should be.  It's going to be a long season.

So, I was saying...

Joe gone at ASB. Theo after they finish 3rd or 4th in the division. 20-28 since the "recovery" to the start of the season. This isn't a good team.

Can they deport this fucking guy?

Only if they send Theo with him. This is a signing that costs jobs.

If this ends in a one and done, who gets fired?
Nobody?
Nobody.
Nobody.

Somebody.

Wait.  I mean nobody.

Nobody.

Hopefully a good number of somebodies...starting with Joe retiring.  Then the hitting and pitching coaches.  Burn it to the ground.

Young talent outside of Baez and Almora is regressing, or at best, not progressing.  Schwarber is a huge missed opportunity to deal to the AL (which is the only place he will ever have value).  In the NL he's a LH Mark Bellhorn that plays LF.  Happ is a lost cause.  KB certainly doesn't look like a HOF player - expectations of legit power from him should be revised down.  Russell is a wife beater and overrated.  There are no young arms anywhere close to the bigs.  How the fuck can this vaunted front office not have a Miles Mikolas equivalent to show for their efforts?

This team isn't getting better from within.  And there's way too much dead weight going into the offseason.  The NL was trash this year, and this team would have been lucky to win 84 in the AL East or West.

Machado or bust this offseason.

They have a bullpen. We don't.

That trade for Wilson was regrettable. So was Joe's decision to use him there.

I didn't think I'd ever miss the 2017 bullpen.

Boy, I was wrong.  The front office really fucked up this season.

Well that sucked.

One bullpen implosion a month isn't that bad.

I'll settle for one a week?  Holy shit this pen is trash right now.

I haven't looked at his actual numbers, but he strikes me as a +VORP short-term fill in for KB.

Hopefully that GW BB will be a good memory to get him through the rest of the Iowa summer.

So it goes.

He's missing the Iowa State Fair, just so he can hit walk-off, 2-out, 2-strike grand slams in Chicago.  Talk about some backwards priorities.

(To be fair, I don't think any of us were anticipating KB spending the better part of 2 months on the DL)

Quote from: Quality Start Machine on July 27, 2018, 08:02:13 AMI mean, the obvious is good enough sometimes.

Am I the only one who doesn't think your thread title is obvious?

That's actually the first one I thought of, but way too obvious.  Besides, New Day > Black Eyed Peas.

He's basically Tommy LaStella with a bit more pop.  It's hard to see where the Cubs have room for him in the long run, so I guess he's trade bait who could find a utility man or even maybe a full-time gig on a shitty team.

I agree. He's basically less-good Candelario, so when the Cubs make their deadline move(s?) I'd expect Bote to be gone.

Well, it'll be a New Day in his career.

Amazingly, Dave Roberts knows how to use his closer in a one-run game...
