Justin Grimm.

All relievers are like this to some degree usually but man was he one of the more inconsistent and frustrating the Cubs have ever had. His ERA by month in 2016:

2.57
4.38
10.38
0.00
0.82
6.14

And even last year he was garbage every month but one, June, when he made 13 appearances and allowed only 1 run. When he could throw strikes he was really good. Just wasn't often enough, obviously.

Wondering what this does to longtime FORKSCOUTED Dillon Maples' chances of making the team (yesterday's tub-shitting notwithstanding).

Increases it as there's one more guy out of his way

I'd bet it doesn't move the needle much. He hasn't set the world on fire in camp and he has options. Butler does not, I'd expect they keep him as the long guy so they can use Montgomery in high leverage

He did strike out the side the one game I watched, and I remember him doing that twice in an otherwise-pedestrian September last year.  IN REAL GAMES so I dunno....
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

Yeah but again he has options, and still needs to prove he can throw strikes consistently, so nothing wrong with sticking him in Iowa. they need a long guy more than they need more set up/relief guys and Eddie Butler would definitely not make it through waivers and he's out of options.

Morrow is the closer, any one of Edwards, Wilson (if his command is back and so far he's only walked 1 dude in 5 innings this spring so god I hope he's fixed), Strop, Cishek, Montgomery could be late inning guys, Duensing is probably your loogy/guy you ask for two innings in the middle of a close game if your starter leaves early, Butler is your long reliever if a starter gets rocked early. '

Maples gets first call if somebody gets hurt (and Strop hasn't appeared in a game yet this spring and may be on the 10 Day DL to start the year so maybe Dillon gets to break camp with the team for a little bit), otherwise he has to wait till September again, probably, unless he's putting up numbers that can't be ignored at Iowa.
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015

Yeah I just read that article. Interesting. I mean they're not risking much giving him the 8th spot in the pen as a try out so if they think they've found something, cool.

Either way if everyone's healthy and Wilson is the guy he's been most of the last six years and not the dude he was after the trade I think this should be a very good, versatile pen.

I think that the Cubs should evaluate their bullpen based upon what the player can contribute by way of dance moves.

MB Financial Bank.

Heh.

How do you know they don't have a Single Greatest Thread Ever and you're on it?

My employers:

American National Bank - Dead
First Colonial Bank - Dead
Sumitomo Bank - Dead
LaSalle National Bank - Dead
KPMG Consulting / Bearing Point - Dead
National City Bank - Dead
AMCORE Bank - Dead
American Chartered Bank - Dead
MB Financial - Dead

I *AM* the bearer of the Single Greatest Thread ever.

MB stock is up 13% the Monday after you leave.

Nice choice, Jim.
