I didn't know the Dodgers moved to the rancid NLC.

There will be no collapse. A more exciting than needed September? Sure. And it's welcome, because Sunday's Bears game will be the closest they will sniff victory until mid-October. Exciting September National League pennant race action!

Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals would have to play a 3-way tiebreaker. If this scenario holds, Cubs would have 21-17 record vs. Cardinals and Brewers, Brewers 20-18 and Cardinals 16-22. My guess is Cubs would defer to Brewers and Cardinals, opting to play 1 game either at St. Louis or Milwaukee and letting Brewers and Cardinals play 1 at Miller Park. Brewers beat Cardinals at Miller Park Monday, and Cubs beat Brewers at Miller Park Tuesday.

Arizona plays the Dodgers for the division title also Monday at Chase Field (Arizona won the season series 11-8). Let's say Arizona wins, because why not. So, Arizona would open the NLDS at Chase Field vs. the Cubs.

That leaves a 3-way tie for the wild card between St. Louis, Milwaukee and Colorado. St. Louis would have the best combines record (13-12), so would they just stay in Milwaukee and wait for the results of Colorado and the Brewers? Suppose the Rockies win Wednesday, setting up a game at Coors vs. the Cardinals Thursday. Let's say the Cardinals win that, pitting them vs. the Dodgers in the Wild Card game which has now shifted to Friday at Dodger Stadium. Let's have the Cardinals win that, because, why not?

The Cubs sweep, yes you read that correctly, sweep, Arizona.

The Cardinals open the NLDS Saturday vs. Max Scherzer and the top-seed Nationals in DC. Scherzer one-hits the exhausted Cardinals, but St. Louis comes back to win 3 straight.

So, mark your calendars: Game 1 of the NLCS, Cardinals at Cubs, 7:05 pm, on TBS.

I got the Cubs going 13-6 by sweeping the Mets, taking 2 of 3 from the Cards, splitting the pair in Tampa, taking 3 of 4 from Milwaukee next weekend, splitting the 4 from the Cards in St. Louis and then taking 2 of 3 from Cincinnati.  The Brewers and Cards would both have to go 15-4 to better that, which would mean going 14-1 and 12-0, respectively, in all non-Cubs games.

They go this.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

Final Standings: West
Dodgers       99-63 0.611 --
Diamondbacks 99-63 0.611 0
Rockies       89-73 0.549 10
Padres       76-86 0.469 23

Final Standings: Wild Card
Cardinals* 89-73 0.549 --
Brewers* 89-73 0.549 --
Rockies 89-73 0.549 --
Cubs*        89-73 0.549 --
Marlins 80-82 0.494 9
Padres 76-86 0.469 13
Pirates 75-87 0.463 14
Braves 72-90 0.444 17
Mets 71-91 0.438 18

I got the Cubs going 13-6 by sweeping the Mets, taking 2 of 3 from the Cards, splitting the pair in Tampa, taking 3 of 4 from Milwaukee next weekend, splitting the 4 from the Cards in St. Louis and then taking 2 of 3 from Cincinnati.  The Brewers and Cards would both have to go 15-4 to better that, which would mean going 14-1 and 12-0, respectively, in all non-Cubs games.

They go this.

I'm more curious as to what the hell is happening with the Dodgers. I'd be mildly entertained to see them blow the best record in the NL and then (extremely entertained) to see them swept out of the first round by the Cubs.

Looks like a pennant collapse after all.
FTFY

There will be no collapse. A more exciting than needed September? Sure. And it's welcome, because Sunday's Bears game will be the closest they will sniff victory until mid-October. Exciting September National League pennant race action!

I'm extremely petty in that I just want this year's Dodgers' to finish with a worse record than last year's Cubs (and they'll now absolutely have a much, much smaller run differential no matter what) so that even if they did somehow reverse this skid and win it all I'd still say last year's Cubs were better.
I will vow, for the sake of peace, not to complain about David Ross between now and his first start next year- 10/26/2015

Who am I kidding? I want them to tie with the D-backs for the division title, then lose that and lose the SeligCard game. I really do like the idea six teams having to play play-in games and then see neither Washington nor LA win a game as soon as the regular season ends. That would be great.

3/8ths into my posit, turns out I actually underestimated the Cubs.  Any "need"--such as it is--to take 3 out of 4 from Milwaukee has been mitigated a bit.  They can drag Milwaukee along and split with them this weekend, and as long as they split against STL and Tampa,  the Cubs would be 88-71 heading into the season's final weekend.  The Brewers, in that scenario, would need to sweep their series this week against Pittsburgh and sweep their series next week at Cincinnati and would still be 1 game behind the Cubs heading into the final weekend.  They would need to then also sweep the Cardinals on that final weekend and hope the Cubs lose at least 1 game against the Reds.  At this point, if the Brewers win the division, it would prove to be a remarkable feat and not a collapse by the Cubs.

Of course, if the Cubs do more than split any of these next 3 series--particularly against Milwaukee--that'd nearly push the Brewers to the brink, as does any non-Cubs series for Milwaukee that doesn't result in a sweep for  them.

I don't mind the Brewers hanging around--might as well keep the Cubs in some sort of rhythm right through to the end of the regular season--and if they do that they'd probably be rewarded with a Wildcard anyway.  Of course, the easiest thing on us long-suffering fans' psyches would be a 4-game sweep against the Brewers this weekend, effectively doing to them what they did to St. Louis, but I'm not expecting that.  However, I will admit to looking forward to the probable Hendricks/Davies matchup in the lid-lifter on Thursday and feel that Hendricks winning the duel could really set that up that possibility.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

The Cubs could get swept by the Beermakers and the Communist Birds and still win the division. As you said,  split in Milwaukee all but sews it up.

I'm kind of hoping Milwaukee makes the wild card. Maybe they stun Arizona, Braun and Thames get white hot vs. LA so they meet the Cubs in the NLCS. more playoff games we can travel to.

The Brewers scrappin' their way to a wildcard birth would make for a neat story--I don't have any ill will toward any team that's had less postseason success than the Cubs in my lifetime--but all the psyboscilin mushrooms in the world couldn't get me to envision the fantastical image of them beating Arizona.  They would be the '98 Cubs of this year's playoffs.

The Brewers can't beat the Dbags in a single game of baseball?

They could...and if their rotation cycles in such a manner that Davies is on normal rest, then they definitely could.  I suppose if Chase Anderson keeps up his bullshit devil magic he, too, can shove it up his old team's ass.

But hoping the calendar works to your advantage while also needing every last start those 2 will give you could leave you without either one for that game, a la the 1998 Cubs. And if that happens, and the Brewers hopes are pinned on something that calls itself "Brent Suter"  then my answer is firmly "NO"--they would not be able to beat the Dbags in a single game of baseball.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.
