Am I correct in assuming that this place is basically a diner version of Leona's? This and a Whole Foods are the most recent pieces in the University's "Three Years to Mediocrity!" development campaign.

It's terrible.

The Burger King down the block is a more solid option.

He's talking Hyde Park, not Evanston you solipsistic douche.

Actually I like the Clarke's in Evanston.  You know, for breakfast and such.

Eggs is eggs. You can't fuck those up.

You can if you forget the tabasco. No fucking Frank's Red Hot. I want honest to God Tabasco sauce, dammit.

I love Cholula on eggs.

BH is correct indeed.

Cholula is solid if I'm having Huevo's Rancheros or other Mexican inspired breakfast dishes. If I'm just having eggs with toast or bacon or whatever it's got to be Tabasco.

There's two kinds of hot sauce.  Tabasco and the crap you get stuck with when the restaurant doesn't have Tabasco.

I finally got tired of getting handed substandard hot sauce, so I started carrying around my own bottle of Tabasco.  It made my world a much better place.

If Tabasco is your peak ideal of hot sauce, you need to stop making fun of Chicago's Mexican food.

Hell, I think most "generic" hot sauces compare favorably to both Tabasco and a young Kierkegaard.

Actually I like the Clarke's in Evanston.  You know, for breakfast and such.  However, I ate the Clarkes' at Belmont and Sheffield when it was called The Melrose back in 1999 and it was awful sauce mixed in a blender with failure and horrible-tasting breakfast sausage so there's that.

Let's not go saying stuff we'll regret.  Tobasco is a fine hot sauce.  It's just not ideal.  It's better than...I don't know...other stuff that is worse than Tobasco.

It's not formally documented, just something Carol and I spend a lot of time talking about.

You, Carol and Pepe Sylvia?

Seriously Tabasco is good. But if I don't see at least two kinds of hot sauce I get discouraged.

I use Sriracha or that Sambal Oelek chili paste on a lot of things. Louisiana on even more. Frank's is fine. Cholula is good.

I just don't see why we have to like one sauce and vehemently disregard the rest as shit. We can like all sauces.
