Stew, you're welcome to join the SBox anytime during Spring Training when I live-cast games off of constantly refreshing the box scores.

It's pretty riveting stuff.

Hope you like no-hitter alerts.

The Tribune website ran a video with Epstein talking about "The Cubs' Way".  I watched it with some dread of hearing something embarrassing about doing things consistently with the history and tradition of the Cubs' organization.  But the "Cubs' Way" appears to be an invention of the Tribune.  I never heard Epstein utter the phrase.

He referred to it repeatedly in his introductory press conference.  Skip to 8:20.

That is embarrassing.

I thought Theo was saying there would be a new way of doing things consistent through all levels of the organization, not referring to the way they've done things in the past. At least that's what I hope he means.

This.

It's a reference to the development of extensive written guidelines for playing, coaching and scouting baseball throughout the Cubs system.

Something self-consciously akin to this...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1190632/7/index.htm

QuoteBack in 2002, as Lewis and Beane were collaborating, Epstein worked with Cherington, Craig Shipley, now the senior vice president of player personnel and international scouting, and their fellow whiz kids in the basement of Fenway on a project of their own. There was no established Red Sox Way, so they set out to define it: They began writing a player-development manual. "Everything from bunt plays to how we want our hitters to be selectively aggressive at the plate," Epstein says, "to what requirements we have to be a starting pitcher to how you throw your bullpens—every fundamental and every philosophical idea." They also wrote a companion manual, on scouting, because "what the scouts look for has to match up with your development philosophy."

Those manuals became the foundation for the Red Sox Way. No book or movie is in the works.

It's a good thing.

Thanks; I should have added the actual phrase was mentioned but it doesn't mean what Stew feared it meant.

No No-Hitter alerts in Spring Training.

Pen's no-hitter-through-3-innings alerts always pay off with hilarity because he inevitably misses all actual no-hitters.

Now that spring training is here, where do you go for baseball news?  MLBTR works for the offseason, despite the obnoxious "How to Use MLBTR" obviposts, and it's not like I'm going to check BCB.  I don't care about fantasy updates, and I'd like better options than cubs.com and the Boo-Yeahs.  A long time ago I read the Cub Reporter and VFTB, but now, meh.  Looking for new sites or at least sites new to me.  Let's try both Cubs-centric and MLB as a whole.  Long reads are a plus.  Not Grantland. Thank you in advance.

SB Nation has a baseball page. I realize SB Nation is the home of Al Yellon but it turns out he's actually an anomaly and most SB Nation blogs are pretty fucking good, if not stellar. He's trying to ruin SB Nation for you but don't let him.

Bleacher Nation is pretty on top of things. I kept seeing it linked from Twitter and mixed it up with Bleacher Report, so I ignored it forever. It's not all that entertaining, but it's active and a good start if you just want a basic roundup of Cubs news.

Fun fact: Bleacher Nation's Ace is the same guy who posted a bunch of gay porn here many moons ago.

Chris Carpenter...

to Boston for Theo.
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.
