Saw last week that Odell was expanding distribution east, and coming to Illinois.

Good news for everyone.  A very solid brewery.

This is good news.
Toppling Goliath also seems to be getting their product in to the Chicago area too.

Not sure if this will take any wind out of your sails, but the TG stuff we're getting in Chicago is brewed in Lakeland, FL through a company called Brew Hub (link: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/brew-hub-announces-partnership-with-toppling-goliath-300064772.html).

It's actually an interesting business model.  Die hards will probably say the beer isn't the same, but normal folks will enjoy it, and it increases production volume for breweries without capital investment.

Interesting article for any other beer nerds out there...heard the author on Good Beer Hunting's podcast from 3/31/17 (interesting listen for some viewpoints on the industry in general).

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170317/ISSUE01/170319866/like-craft-beer-youre-in-the-right-city

Supposedly Chicago is the most distributed to craft beer market in the country.

For the people out there who prefer cider, Stella Artois just might be the very best. Admittedly, I prefer cider that is sweeter rather than dry, so your mileage may vary.

Great read by Josh Noel (among other things, a beer writer for the Trib) on NEIPAs...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/dining/foodfocus/ct-hazy-ipa-craft-beer-food-0705-20170630-story.html

Sounds like Corridor has some good ones. I've never been.  If you're in the burbs, Noon Whistle (Lombard) makes some great NEIPAs (their 'Gummy' series), and Mikerphone in Elk Grove is making their mark in the style, as well.  Other options include Hop Butcher for the World (Galaxy Bowl), Maplewood and Hailstorm (in Tinely Park).

Yeah.  I wrote a post some time ago pooh-poohing this but it got lost and I couldn't be arsed to go back and write it again.  I understand that this is entirely a matter of taste and as such, completely subjective... but anyone who thinks that Stella Artois cider is the very best really needs to try more ciders.  It's fine.  Good, even.  But the very best?  Nope.

In that case, I've been ghey and such before ghey and such were cool. (I believe Dubbs's response when I got a Magner's at Shitty's on his tab was "what the fuck is that?")

Anyway, when the local Binny's Express was closing to move up to a bigger space on 47th, they were blowing out the craft beers and a ton of cider at unbelievably low prices. The Seattle semi-sweet was like $1.99 for a four-pack of tall cans, and that was very good; my imaginary ex quite liked the Virtue brut; the Vander Mills was a bit hit-or-miss (more of a miss on the dry hopped one); and the Bordelet perry was very good. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to score any Bordelet Granit at $12 a bottle, as it was apparently all scooped up by a single person. And then mysteriously started being carried by the wine store that the hippy mart had just opened on 57th, for $29.

It was for a while until the Gluten-Frees got a hold of it and took it mainstream.

I love a good, dry cider every once in a while and I don't give a shit what you fuckers call me because of it.

Sweet ciders are for those who miss the halcyon days Bartles and James.
