Richard Hatch, Captain Apollo in Battlestar Galactica, dead of Cylon attack (it says pancreatic cancer here, but that can't be right) at 71.

Also, how the fuck did they only make 21 episodes?  As a kid I remember watching more or less nothing except Battlestar Galactica, Bonanza, and Buck Rogers.

Well, he was involved in the 75-episode reboot. The really good 75-episode reboot.

Re-runs of Sci Fi shows always played well with young audiences, which is why they managed to make 3 seasons of Star Trek play continuously for 20 years and create an insanely dedicated fanbase that prompted the return of the franchise through movies and TNG. They were still playing replays of Battlestar Galactica every day on Sci Fi Channel when I was a kid.

I thought Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers were the same thing.

You thought that as a kid?  Or you thought that up until now?

Yup.  I enjoyed "Silver Spoons" more than I should have because of her.

Yep, only 66 episodes of the original series were made, only like...15 of which were any good. There was a cartoon for two seasons that was also mostly terrible. But re-runs were played so often (and there was really nothing else like it on TV at the time) that it formed a dedicated fan base anyway.

The best thing I've seen with the cartoons is the Starcher Trek re-dubs.

Thanks for the Starcher Trek tip.  Never knew about their existence, but happy to see them now.

Contemporaneous Glen A. Larson joints. I was driving myself to distraction trying to sketch out a metric for this psychological landscape that, having reached the point of mebbe comparing pictures of the respective spacecraft, I found myself at... W—dia.

QuoteThe production [of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century] recycled many of the props, effects shots, and costumes from Battlestar Galactica, which was still in production at the time the pilot for Buck Rogers was being filmed.

Beats whomping up some sort of Jungian manifold.
