Title: Up in the Air
Post by: CBStew on December 20, 2009, 08:47:57 PM
This movie has gotten a lot of hype.  It deserves it.  Clooney plays a man who works for a company that fires people.   He constantly travels all over the United States, and has no roots.  It is a lifestyle that he has chosen in preference to committing to anything permanent.  His job is a metaphor for his philosophy.  You know what is coming.  A crisis causes him to question his choices and the movie ends, literally and figuratively, up in the air.  It is funny.  Clooney is smug and charming.  His bed partner is attractive and interesting.  You see a lot of the United States that you didn't particularly care to see.

Oh.  I forgot to mention.  Sam Elliot reprises his role from The Big Lebowski.  Nice touch.

Good good. I am intending on seeing this. I have a rule with Clooney movies. Even if it sucks, you still get to stare at George Clooney. The rule applies to Robert Downey Jr. movies, as well.

I think you meant to put that comment somewhere else. (http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/league-of-her-own/)

This is what I saw when Avatar was sold out and there were only scattered seats for Sherlock Holmes.  What a depressing ending.  But the chick Clooney was banging had a great ass, so it wasn't a complete waste.  Also, I hate Jason Bateman as every character he's ever played except Michael Bluth.

...because they play the same character in every movie.

Dax Shepard is easily the worst "actor" of all time.  I'd rather watch Paul Walker play Tony Montana for 3 hours than watch that douche do anything besides get hit by a bus.

Yes, in the front row.  I was wearing 3D glasses, and turning my head to see the sides of the screen.

Saw this last night...Vera Farmiga has a thing about showing her ass in a movie and I absolutely love it.  I almost saw hot dog bun.

Anyway, the acting was decent and the story was okay.  The whole movie is borderline depressing, but it seems to overcome since Clooney's character seems okay with his choice in life.

Shut your face.

Seriously, "really awesome"?
I saw this the other night.
It was good, but almost instantly forgettable.

It was a body double.

and I saw it last weekend.  I thought it was awesome.  Really awesome.  Stick that in your queue.

Shut your face.

I saw it on the plane the other day, and was shocked that American Airlines wasn't showing it on every single flight for the next month.  There was quite a bit edited out because apparently it was too raunchy for the friendly skies, but I thought it was really good.

The only thing better than the in-flight movies are the deals.

They publish a list of what movies are showing for each route in the in flight magazine.  Generally, they
show one set of movies going east and a different set going west.

I saw it. It was clever. But not "awesome".
How did he get the girl's address in Chicago?
I think that is the key question to the movie.
She didn't give it to him, that's for sure.
Made the movie a little unrealistic for me.

And, if she had a family, she went away for the weekend with him to Wisconsin.  Didn't seem to fit.

About as sad of a main character as I can remember from any movie.

There's the one scene where the cute little chick sings a Cyndi Lauper karaoke song.

I mean, who actually does shit like that?

I saw this last night. The body double was tremendous. Everybody else, kind of meh. 2.5 Stars.
