True story: after enduring the Cubs' inspiring 1-0 loss last night, I rode the El back north to the suburbs, sitting next to a guy with his two boys and his brother (?). The guy and his kids were Cub fans, with the old man wearing a Sean Gallagher jersey, one of the boys wearing a Derrek Lee jersey, and the youngest boy (maybe about 8 or 9) rocking a 1993 authentic Rick Wilkins jersey. Anyway, the old man's brother had gone to the Cub game with them, but was following the Sox game on his Iphone. "The team that matters," he smugly said, or something like that.
Anyway, he proudly announced to the train car that the Sox had taken the lead, and was all smile and douche when one of the boys (Rick Wilkins) leaned over and started cackling. "Jim Thome! The only White Sox player I liked!" The poor uncle probably contemplated walking onto the tracks after getting off the train at Howard after what he endured the rest of the train ride.
Go Twins.
This game is over./Hawk

You need to post more.
Who is Kermit?
You could have had a ride. But then we wouldn't have had this outstanding story.
I was literally writing "Will Hawk throw throw his half-living body out of the booth if Thome homers here?" and before I could finish typing (and I type at blazing speeds) Thome had destroyed one into the seats sending Hawk into irritating silence leaving Steve Stone to clean up the mess.
That was my first baseball related boner this year. Probably my only.
I love JI Thome.
I'm rooting for the Twins.
However, Peoria sucks.

Thome's PEORIA CLASS is only matched by that of Jamar Smith.
So how are the Bears looking this year? When do the Hocks report?

Jamar Smith and Brian Randle are surefire lottery picks.
And Thome - even though he's from Limestone and not Peoria proper - is the balls. That walkoff last night was tastier than an Avanti's pizza burger.

I want to see the Twins do well because I hate the fucking Sox.
But Twins fans are probably Vikings fans too and I hate the fucking Vikings.
I'm so conflicted.

A lot of Bears fans are Sox fans. But then... I hate Bears fans. I don't see a conflict here.
You don't have to ask me twice to pull for the Twins.
BTW, Target Field is fantastic. A little bit of a pain to get around (it's no better than Wrigley...seriously). That aside, it's a phenomenal looking park. The limestone turned out to be a damn cool idea. If you are the ballpark weekend type as I am, it's highly recommended.

Nothing. I love him, too. I just love that the team is good enough to overcome mediocre starting pitching
and the loss of their biggest slugger, yet still depants the Sox.

QuoteJul 24 Thome is in the Twins' starting lineup Sunday, one day after sitting in deference to Jason Kubel, the Star Tribune's La Velle E. Neal III reports.
Recommendation: Even at 87 years old, Thome is still among the Twins' better hitters.
I bet he ate sliced pizza from Little Caesar's instead of strips from Agatucci's while he was in town (http://www.pjstar.com/sports/x555040426/Capie-Cubs-owner-laying-foundation).
QuoteWednesday's visit marked Ricketts first visit to Peoria but the chairman had heard nothing but positives about the Chiefs. Peoria's player development contract with the Cubs expires after next season, but it will probably be extended.
"I think the Chiefs have a good relationship with the Cubs," Ricketts said. "I don't know the terms of the deal, but I consider them a great partner."
Contracts with minor league affiliates must fall under Todd's column on the Chart of Responsibilities.
QuoteChiefs manager Casey Kopitzke played in the Cubs system when the Tribune Co. owned the team. The night-and-day difference is apparent because of Ricketts' interest in learning the about how the organization works.
"Without a doubt," Kopitzke said. "One of the feelings you get is that there is somebody that has a plan and a message. It's really neat to have him here with us."
The plan: retain Oneiri Fleita at all costs.
QuoteWhile Ricketts was fairly expansive in talking about the farm system, questions expressly about the status of general manager Jim Hendry and the recently passed trade deadline were deemed off limits. He turned guarded when asked about any possible changes for next season
"I don't know just yet," Ricketts said. "It's something we'll decide at the right time."
I'll leave it to Yeti to tell us what this means for Hendry's future.

Genius businessmen like Tom don't have time for boring contracts. Also it's cute how Kopitzke sucks up to the boss. We finally have the answer why they haven't won the World Series in so many years: no message.
