OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

What if he just died? He could just die and that'd be great. Just never bother me again

I'm convinced the SKO saga ends with a news anchor talking over a live chopper shot, "We're now looking live at the scene..."

Honestly IRL I am calm about the sports because I just pour all of the angry thoughts into the twitter box so that people I actually care about don't have to deal with them. I just need a place to vent, really, and I chose you poor bastards.

oh and before I get accused of chicken little bullshit over the Cardinals that's not my panicky notion, both fangraphs and baseball prospectus have the cardinals favored to win the division now. The cubs dicked away their cushion.

"Let's pick this kid up off waivers from the Reds..."

Said no competent front office ever.

no good player was ever on waivers. science

I'm wondering which bullpen out there has some kind of great player in the 8th spot in the pen. He'd already used Cishek, Wilson, Morrow, Edwards, and Montgomery, and he'd used Strop for 2 innings (which is already rare to begin with) the day before. They were down to the last man standing, and that guy is already an injury fill in for Eddie Butler, who was doing pretty well before he got hurt.

I'm pretty fucking pissed obviously but this is the dumbest possible complaint. The bullpen is not and has not been a problem this year.

The problem with wanting to rant and blame a single person for this team is that it's bullshit. Theo Epstein assembled as good of a roster as anyone in baseball. Maddon has mostly managed this team fine, he's used his bullpen fine. There's a bunch of talented players playing like shit, and then there's Jason Heyward. Just like last year the only solution is hope they get their heads out of their asses before it's too late. My concern here is I think that Cardinals team looks like an 88-91 win squad and not last year's 83 win version or whatever, so the Cubs are gonna need to start playing up to their capabilities quickly or the division's not going to be waiting for them.

I don't really think there's anything wrong here other than that he has no fastball command right now. The only problem is I don't know how that gets fixed if they don't know why it's happening?

I've seen some folks on the tubes suggest that Gimenez come up to play Yu's caddie and I'm cool with that. Caratini isn't really getting enough action to continue his development and giving Yu a security blanket probably isn't the worst idea in the world.

Yeah I mean I think that's fine and can't hurt to try, but it really doesn't seem like sequencing or pitch calling is the issue here. In fact I thought Willson and Yu were smart against the Brewers to mix and match and basically just ditch the 4 seam entirely. Still, you can only get away without throwing a fastball for strikes for so long. Our good friend Trueblood pointed out that Yu's release point this year is down 3-4 inches from last year which is kind of a big dip and probably what he needs to fix. I doubt a catch fixes that.

Given how wild Yu has been, it also might help to have a catcher back there who's *not* the worst in the majors at framing pitches.

Really disappointing that Willson has mostly regressed as a pitch framer instead of improving.

Bump for 7 shutout innings and the game winning RBI.

Last two starts combined: 13IP 1ER 8BB 9K, WHIP of 1.077

That'll do for your 5.

I'd rather have a guy who doesn't walk 8 in 13 innings, so let's not hand him the Fifth Starter Cy Young just yet.

Walks aren't a bug with Chatwood, they're a feature. He only gave up 6 hits along with those 8 walks, so it's fine for your 5. Let's see if he and Hickey can work together on getting better command, but he's fine for a guy who can take the ball every 5 games before grabbing some bench in the postseason.

I don't think his 6.9 BB/9, while nice, is sustainable for a big league starter, so mark me down for wanting more improvement there before we crown his ass. (BB/9 of 6.9 would be the highest season mark of young Tyler's career.)

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect him settling into somewhere near his career 4.3. Hopefully he can get to 4.20.

But didn't he just leave Colorado?

Sigh. I laughed at this...Chueyork Joke?

Dude was really good last night, and has been of late, and his ERA is stellar right now even though he's actually been really unlucky. His FIP is terrible at 5.33 but that's because he leads the league with 8 HR allowed. 4 of those were at Wrigley with the wind blowing out and Coors Field. Unless you think his incredibly unlucky 23.5% HR/FB is going to keep up he's really going to have a very good year again.

we call them potato pancakes because I don't know if I actually met a Jewish person before college growing up in Bugtussle, but my Grandpa used to make them every Sunday and I haven't actually had them since he passed but man were they good with sour cream.

Well he was useful offensively for like a week and a half so naturally he's gotta fuck up on defense yet again.

Kyle since his return from Iowa:

.253/.345/.550, 132 wRC+, .376 wOBA, 21 dingers in 284 PA. That's a 40 HR pace in a full season of ~550 PA.

this is now .266/.357/.582, 144, .393, and 24 in 300 PA.

For this year alone:

.302/.413/.635, 183 wRC+, .444 wOBA

I was just browsing, with my hand down my shorts, through Cubs stats on Fangraphs, when I noticed that BMIaez has a BABIP of just .292.  Considering that he currently leads the team in WAR ahead of give guys who all have a BABIP of over .350, that's pretty remarkable.

However, I then notice that not only is Javy's BABIP .292, but his BA is also .292.  I tried to think about what exactly that means, but it made my brain hurt, so... paging statnherds?

BA is .299 and BABIP is .308. Internet is slow in Australia

Speaking of stats (cue Yeti), he's got 24 RBI which is leading the NL. That's kinda fun. 24 before April is over decent.

With what, 4 missed games due to weather?

He is currently on pace to best Hack Wilson's 1930 all-time MLB record of 191 RBI with 195 (he's also on pace to finish with one more homer than Hack had, 57 to 56).

The only logical conclusion is this is 100% what is going to happen

So far this season, JHey has been downright adequate with his OPS+ of 115.

In fact (keeping in mind that it's still April), his current offensive numbers align almost perfectly with his 2015 numbers.

His K/BB rates are a matching 10.5%, his hard contact rate is the highest it's been since his rookie year, and he's hitting grounders at a career low rate.

I don't know if I believe yet, but there are reasons to believe this is sustainable and he's actually fixed something. Last year even when he was off to his "good" start his OBP was actually below his career rate and he was selling out by swinging at the first hittable pitch he saw. Once pitchers adjusted he was right back where he was in 2016. This year he's just doing all of the things he did before he was a Cub so far.
