OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

For the people out there who prefer cider, Stella Artois just might be the very best.

*blink*

Yeah.  I wrote a post some time ago pooh-poohing this but it got lost and I couldn't be arsed to go back and write it again.  I understand that this is entirely a matter of taste and as such, completely subjective... but anyone who thinks that Stella Artois cider is the very best really needs to try more ciders.  It's fine.  Good, even.  But the very best?  Nope.

I thought cider was for the gheys and such.

It was for a while until the Gluten-Frees got a hold of it and took it mainstream.
Cider is acceptable again in many circles.

Not mine, but others.

I just saw this thread title and the 19th century nativist in me was FURIOUS all over again.

I just saw that this thread had been bumped and was 100% certain that it had something to do with me.

You are The Eternal Mick.

I feel like Yeti has gotten a real pass here, but considering Huey literally eats potato tacos from Taco Bell, it's probably warranted.

Shit, Huey alone pays your damn mortgage.

Also Yeti wasn't raised in the papist tradition so, as far as being stereotypically Irish, he might as well be Chinese.

Fuck knows what Fork's up to there, but... Yeti's not Catholic?  What the fuck, Yeti?

I prefer to be the molester, not the molestee

So, still Catholic then?

Poor Chuck.

They did it: I finally felt sorry for Chuck.

Just watched the entire series to date over the past couple of months.

What a fantastic show.

I don't know if I felt sorry for Chuck, but it was the first time in a while I was cringing a bit.

(bye Blackey)

This is an unfortunate typo in an otherwise solid posteseason roser post.

Blackey:

His teeth are huge, like Freddy "Piano Keys" Bynum's teeth, but they're also disgusting...the "black" keys instead of the white jeys.

"Black Keys' + Lackey = Blackey

For more information, check out  your local neighborhood Slack.

I've spent a lot of time in Slack and have been involved in far, far than my fair share of dumb nickname conversations and I have neither heard "Blackey" before, nor have any idea what the fuck you're talking about

Does anybody remember what a normal week feels like?

You mean back in the days when the Cubs had gone over a century without a World Series?

Are you implying the Cubs winning was part of a Faustian bargain?

I tend to reject the emotional and irrational but I'll be damned if it doesn't increasingly feel like it.  We had one week--ONE WEEK--to truly enjoy it before the world starting raining shit.

On the plus side at least we DO have a good Cubs team to which we can turn our attention to block out said shit shower.

It was more like two or three days from Game Seven to the election. I got to have two days of elation in exchange for going on 9 months of pervasive, unending dread. This is affecting my general sense of happiness.

Maybe it's a conversion issue but there are 6 days between Nov 2 and Nov 8.

Yeah I was confused here, thinking for a moment that Canadian calendars marked time differently.

If I lived in Canada, I would probably just laugh at America instead of being sad about it.

Sounds like we can pack up our expectations.

This did at least remind me that Rotoworld apparently still exists.

NBC Sports bought them a handful of years back and they're incorporated directly into Yahoo fantasy now.
Still getting a lot of eyes, I'd suspect.

Too long to quote-reply, but did you hear Chuck's "interview" with Bernstein and Goff?

No, I didn't. What was in it?

Not much, it turns out.

Holy cap. He sounded frightened Sharon Panozzo was going to reprimand him.

The dysfunction of the organization is mind boggling. John McDonough had a function and he was very successful at it. But how could Philadelphia keep Andy MacPhail, under whose watch this dysfunction occurred, employed?

That interview is hilarious.

FUCK

As long as he's only out a month, nothing is fucked.

If he's done for the year, well fuck.

Gonna need to revise expectations from "Cubs are back!" To "First Team to 85 Wins The Division"

I mostly feel bad for Willson who was having a borderline-supreme season.  I think it's good they have Avila, and Caritini has apparently gotten hot since going back after homering and winning a game in his last plate appearance for the Cubs so there's a chance they can mitigate, to some degree, Willson's absence but if he's shut down for the season then that'd be tough to overcome in the playoffs.

Fowler's hammy cost him 4 weeks last year, correct?

Probably time to give Grandpa a call.

I went to a game at Busch Stadium a couple weeks ago.

Pros:
- It's a really nice ballpark
- There was so little demand from The Best Fans in BaseballTM that I got 15th row seats behind the Cardinals dugout for $50
- They have a convenience store in the stadium that has a pretty good selection of microbrews
- Bogart's Smokehouse for lunch the following day (best burnt ends I've ever had)

Cons:
- St. Louis is a shithole
- Bud Light Lime is a "premium" beer
- Their affection for Yadi is creepy
- They root for the Cardinals
- The fans are people who live in St. Louis

That can't be the entire Cons list.

He's correct.

I can't believe you assholes are going to make me defend and agree with SKO.
I'm not sure they win the World Series without him and yeah, definitely always going to remember him for the Rain Delay Speech, which will go down forever in Cubs lore. Heyward seems like a good dude, great.

But I don't see the big deal with pointing out that this guy sucks.

He's here for another million years and a trillion dollars, so if he could not be completely shitty, that'd be great.

John Lackey wasn't useless today? Mind blown.
He'll give me a reason to hate him again in his next start.

That didn't take long.

Wind howling out and he gives up 3 in 5.1?  It'll do.  Don't let me stop you from hating him, though.

I need to learn to hold my tongue on Lackey until after the 2nd inning. He almost always gives up 1-2 in the early going and I rage because my rage against him is barely ever held in check and then he usually settles down and has a quality start. He's a perfectly acceptable five with a very hateable face.

Optimistic Bump.

DPD.

Which free online translator (English-Spanish, etc) is the most reliable?

I occasionally need to reply to customers in other languages, and I've been using Google translate to do so.

But if there's something where there's less risk of me saying something rude about somebody's mother, I'm on board.

Have you lost your mind? Just say "Estoy muy embarazada, pero no hablo español" and find somebody who does.

Hold your horses, there.  I use Google translate or http://www.dict.leo.org when I'm writing to people in German or Dutch and need a particular phrase or word.  I'm fluent in both languages, though, so I know what I'm looking for and I know what to take and what to leave.  I also then search on the phrase or word that I pick out to make sure that people are using it in the way that I think they're using it.  That way, I don't unintentionally insult anybody's mother, and if I do insult anybody's mother, I do it right.

Fork: if you speak decent Spanish anyway then Google translate (or some other site - I don't speak more than a few words of Spanish so I don't know what that might be) is fine if you're careful about it.  if you don't, then I reckon Wheez is probably right: just tell 'em you don't speak Spanish and figure it out some other way.
