OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Hearing how irritated the Rockies announcers got by Javy's counter-sign stealing measures, I hope he does it every time they play Colorado from now on.

I love how one of them says "Anyhow, even if he's attempting to, that's part of the game. And if you do steal signs, shame on you." So, which is it?

Whatever the non-white player is doing, he's in the wrong here.

He's striking out 21.3% of the time in 80 PA. Supposedly K rate starts to stabilize around 60 PA (which we're just gonna ignore in Ian Happ's case). If Javy is only going to strike out at a league average rate then there really is no ceiling for him, is there?

Kyle since his return from Iowa:

.253/.345/.550, 132 wRC+, .376 wOBA, 21 dingers in 284 PA. That's a 40 HR pace in a full season of ~550 PA.

Is there anything Iowa can't do?

Keep a racist out of Congress?

Thanks for checking in, Mr, uh, *squints* South...Carolina?

Oh so Steve King isn't racist then, glad we cleared that up.

No, no. SKO is right. Racists only come from one place.

They do only come from one place...the darkness of the human soul amirite

DPD but Morrow has some serious shit. It's a shame he's had such trouble with injuries in his career because he's very clearly got the stuff to be an elite closer.

The HBP stunk but that was a hell of a job by Cishek to avoid the total meltdown there.

The Cubs' or yours?

this was good. I laughed. .

In all seriousness Sea Shack has looked pretty damn good in the early going.

He's been good everywhere he's ever gone, I honestly don't know how the Cubs got him so cheap

Bryan Price was fired by the Reds, replaced by Jim Riggleman.

The Reds are also proof that sucking for a number of years in a row does not guarantee future success.

Their lineup has been good enough to contend with the entire time, they just can't grow pitching for shit, which I think is going to be the problem with a lot of these rebuilds, and it's the same problem the Cubs ran into. "Just develop hitters, then trade for pitching" is a sound theory unless 15 other clubs are doing it and pretty soon no one has any pitching surplus they're willing to trade. The Cubs managed to get around the issue by throwing dump trucks of money at Lester, Darvish, Lackey, etc. Teams that aren't willing to pay for pitching are fucked.

Any time this guy misses significant time, I get afraid the Hodgkin's is back.

So, you've had this concern for the first time ever since last week?

No.

I didn't realize missing a game (or was it maybe two?) for a sore back constituted as "significant time."

I apologize for the person who pissed in your cornflakes today.

Just pointing out that he's rarely been out of the lineup. Until now, he hasn't missed any significant time since 2014, when he was out for the first half of September - with a mild back strain.

It would be easier for you to find instances on this shit-for-brains site where it's suggested he could use a day or two off.

Caratini looks competent enough to fill in once every couple of weeks for Tony, which I think would help. He's not old but in baseball years he's also not young anymore and the team would probably benefit from him not averaging 155 games a year or whatever he's averaged other than 2014. Keeping him healthy and effective for October (he admitted he was tired in 2016 and that's why he switched to Szczur's lighter bat in the NLCS and then last October he looked...not great) should be a goal.

Especially since he seems to have the tendency to run out of gas in late September.
I ran out of gas in 1992, right around Thanksgiving.

I'd have figured you were an old enough model that you ran on steam.

bump. Jepstink did some good shopping this winter.
Every time I try to figure out something Epstink has done right since 2016, I end up scratching my head.

Instead of a guy like Cishek who only gets guys out he could have gotten someone who throws normally.

Cishek is great. I love those sidearmed weirdoes.

Indeed, his Sept/Oct OPS, while still a respectable .803 for his career, is his lowest of any month, and he's got a career postseason line of .216/.300/.396 (although worth noting his line for the 2016 NLCS/WS was a boner-ific .340/.431/.620)

So yeah I mean among other reasons why it would be good to see the Cubs overcome this slow start and cruise to the division lead like they did in 2016 is that it'd probably pay off to be able to give Tony more breathers than he's used to.
