OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Well, I suppose wonders will never cease.

When all else failed yesterday I did eventually call my ISP and they've acknowledged that it's their problem.  They didn't say exactly what that problem was, and they didn't know that it included me or mlb.com, but some of their customers (including me, it turns out) can't access http://www.hema.nl, and this is all part of the same thing.  They say they're working on it.  I won't hold my breath.

This is even curiouser.  I could imagine a localized DNS issue with Akamai:

;; ANSWER SECTION:
mlb.mlb.com.            216     IN      CNAME   mlb.mlb.com.edgesuite.net.
mlb.mlb.com.edgesuite.net. 19493 IN     CNAME   a1321.g.akamai.net.
a1321.g.akamai.net.     20      IN      A       89.149.169.89
a1321.g.akamai.net.     20      IN      A       89.149.169.97

...but what could that have to do with hema.nl?  If you call them again, see if mentioning "Prolexic" elicits a response.

[Edit.--Ah, yes, kept the speculative bit but left out the useful part.  Have you tried telling the router to use, say, OpenDNS's name servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) instead?]

Oh, boy.  The pituitary-stealing bad guys do have a cardiac monitor, don't have a defibrillator, and yet do for some reason have a working homebrew variac?

My Internet Provider is a bunch of utter cunts who would see me in hell before they lifted a finger to help me.  Anybody got a different solution?

Do you still have the old router?  If this is the choke point, then you're going to have to talk to the new one.  (Don't try to "teach it phenomenology.")

I can connect through a proxy.  Resetting my modem hasn't achieved anything.  When I ping mlb.com it times out.  The firewall on my router isn't switched on at all.

Mlb.com is akin to the Polisario.  I can't ping it either, but that's because an orgy of Flashturbation requires layers of regimentation.

Again, what does your browser do when you attempt to summon mlb.com?  (BT as ISP?)

Back at ya Z!

There is no need for the Gnostic heresy.  Try Saint Rita.

If this baseball thing doesn't work out, I can envision a bright future with the Holy See.

Indeed, a clearer description of the failure mode would help.  When you say you can't "see it," does this mean the name doesn't resolve, or is some HTTP error being returned, the browser just hangs, etc.?

I think it's pretty cool--and not at all surprising--that Wheezer's chummy feline can do transcendental meditation.
Ohhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm
Just wanted to let you know that the shrinking font, while cool, was a total waste of time.

I don't think Om is one of the TM mantras, either.  The cat's philosophical position is unclear to me, but I suspect it's influenced by David Carradine.

I would assume the recessed triangular area just outside the ear canal would be the inner pinna.

Ah, that helps.  My friend here has rather delicate ears, and that structure is pretty inconspicuous.  Thanks.

In the Hints from Heloise department, does anyone have any experience giving cats transdermal medications?  I have the cat and the "stuff," but I really suspect there's an aspect of technique here that I don't understand, in particular what part of the ear the "inner pinna" really is.

I have TWO different TVs with DVR.  HDTVs!

I have one TV with TWO different VCRs.  Lets me lay down the radio call on the same tape with the TV broadcast in case of emergency.

A bit too sciency at times, but good.

Emphasis on the 'y'.  It takes longer than two hours to whomp up a batch of LSD.  How this was supposed to synergize with everyone's favorite battlefield anesthetic, ketamine, completely eludes me (John Lilly reference notwithstanding).

I didn't make it to the end--the characters were just too flat for my taste.

Holy cats.  I'm only at the 60 minute mark, but I'll be amazed if this manages to last as long as "The Nine."

Who do I have to stab to get these guys playing better baseball?
Marlon Brando.

I've heard some experts say that Brando was quite the prankster in his later years.  "Kaufmanesque" if you will.

Kafkaesque?

You're thinking of Gogol, no?
