I positive United for this. I have sat next to definitely a few Konerko-jersey wearing types on 4-hour plane ride, and I resent that because I'm not a fatass, I'm entitled to less real estate.
OK A-holes. It's fixed. Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them. I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Was I the only one who was mystified by Jon Miller, Steve Phillips and Joe Morgan trying to explain OPS? None were really sold on the stat. Morgan thinks the stat could be misleading because you could have "unbalanced" OPS's (i.e., guys who get on base all the time, but really suck because they don't have that kind of power or guys who hit a lot of extra base hits but suck because they don't have the world's best OBA).
Morgan actually has a point, since OBP is more valuable than SLG, although if a guy has a 1.000 OPS, it doesn't matter how it's divided out, he's good. Of course, this problem has already been addressed with better stats like EQA, which Morgan would know if he ever did any research for his job. Even better, EQA is weighted exactly like batting average, so it makes sense to any baseball fan. Even ones as dumb as Joe Morgan.

So, in retrospect, I guess it's a good thing Milt got hurt.

Am I the only retard that thought the 0 for 3 UM had at the plate was kinda impressive? The results were shitty, but the approach was great.
You can tell he's played this game before.

So would this be a good time to say I saw Gretzky in a Krispy Kreme once?

To make room for Hoffpauir in the starting lineup, Jim Hendry took my suggestion from last October 22 (and to think, so many of you laughed at me when I suggested this) and, after several weeks' worth of secret negotiations carried out at the Paradise Bakery in Scottsdale (the very same location where Nomar Garciaparra himself, the subject of one of Hendry's biggest deals, was spotted buying bagels and coffee during spring training in 2005), Hendry convinced San Francisco GM Brian Sabean to take the two remaining years on Derrek Lee's contract in exchange for pitcher Matt Cain.

Steve Chapman with a good take on an area of spending that never seems to get a mention from the fiscal responsibility gang.QuoteThe real question is not why Obama wants to spend so little on defense but why he wants to spend so much. Since 2001, our military outlays have soared by 40 percent, after adjusting for inflation. And that's not counting the costs of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If you took away all the terrible arguments, bland postings, echo chamber commenters, bits stolen from others, tirades about appropriate and inappropriate comments, and record-keeping of the Cubs' record when he wears a particular hat or pair of underwear, Al's blog wouldn't exist.
