I positive United for this. I have sat next to definitely a few Konerko-jersey wearing types on 4-hour plane ride, and I resent that because I'm not a fatass, I'm entitled to less real estate.

Morgan actually has a point, since OBP is more valuable than SLG, although if a guy has a 1.000 OPS, it doesn't matter how it's divided out, he's good.  Of course, this problem has already been addressed with better stats like EQA, which Morgan would know if he ever did any research for his job.  Even better, EQA is weighted exactly like batting average, so it makes sense to any baseball fan.  Even ones as dumb as Joe Morgan.

But Morgan's problem was mainly with singles hitters (and guys who walk a lot) getting inflated OPS.

But I think the final analysis from Joe Morgan was that it was a good stat because the best player in the NL led the league in OPS, so therefore it "validates" the stat.  I can't wait until he gets to wrap his head around GRIT one day.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that someone is faxing a print out of each day's posts to the booth and that Santo reads it. That's the only way he reads BCB.

That's a great read. I think defense should always be the top priority of a government. But our DoD has become a center of waste and abuse. I'll argue that some past increases in defense were necessary, but we could have been more efficient this decade. Interestingly enough, that was what Rumsfeld was brought in to do.
