I was at Game 1 of that NLDS. The place was a library.  It got a little loud when DeRosa homered, then silent when Loney went yard.  We left as Maddux came in to close out the game.  The next night, no one wanted to catch the ball.  When they got to LA, I barely wanted to watch.

Try being at Game 3 in LA.  By the fifth inning, I was doing everything in my power to cover up the Cubs shirt I was wearing.  That I was able to escape the parking lot unscathed still confounds me to this day.

We need to get a federal prosecutor to get Tunney indicted and then have Ending Spending PAC back an Alderman for Lakeview who stands for stringent enforcement of building and fire codes, starting on Waveland and Sheffield Aves. Send in a couple building inspectors into each building and I'm sure they can find numerous code violations. Give them the 90 days or whatever the hell it is to repair it, then condemn the property and make the landowner pay for demolition. The Ricketts can then buy the land out of bankruptcy court, and you have your Wrigleyland campus and maybe even some sweet parking next to the fire station.

I saw this movie over the weekend.  I can say that I was impressed by the directing, the acting, and the pacing of the movie.  However, I think this movie could have been strengthened a little bit more by having someone (anyone?) do a polish of the script, such as it was.  For the most part, I think that Russell gave the actors a vague outline of the script and then just told them to go with it, which is why the acting is so superb.  While I think Lawrence did a great job, I think Amy Adams was infinitely better, seeing as she had to play four or five (or six or seven) different characters throughout, all of which she did with aplomb.  I couldn't tell if Lawrence's accent, on the other hand, was breaking in some places, because there were moments when it was noticeable.

The soundtrack was also wonderfully selected and the score muted at precisely the right moments, which is why I think this is a great movie, but one that leaves you a "so what" kind of feel at the end; what was this movie ultimately about in the end, put another way.  This is the same way I felt about Argo last year, so I wouldn't be shocked if this wins best picture.

And Louie CK steals the show.

PS - If anyone here remembers the 1985 movie "Clue" I think you should all know that the actress who played Yvette in that movie also played Brenda the FBI cat lady in this movie.

Hub is shit

Adam Hoag, who covers the Bears for The Score took him on a little bit regarding Long. He said he disagreed with Hub's statement that he "peaked in the preseason game against San Diego." He also said he graded him out better than Roberto Garza. Hub got indignant about that assessment and demanded to know who had graded Long better than Garza. Hoag stood his ground and said that he himself had done so and Hub, finally aware of what a tool he was being, kind of politely disagreed. I never really had any use for Adam Hoag other than some breaking updates that he has access to because he's embedded with the Bears but this was a positive in my book.

Even Matt Bowen refrains from smacking Hub down on the air when he definitely could. People around The Score treat Hub like he's Papa Bear or some shit. I don't get it.

I don't get it either. They're one big family of waterheaded dopes.

That said, Hoge published a fairly comprehensive look at the Bears heading into the offseason and I enjoyed it. He's definitely not Hub, that's for sure.

I now like Durkin as well.  I think Hoge's been fine in his first year on the full-time beat.  And I like Zach Zaidman.  Underscore fancies himself a guy who doesn't tolerate fools and is always first in line to call out wrong people on their wrongness, so it's especially odd that he's so fond of Hub.
