OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Before we close the book on "Chuck," let's at least remember his first post here.

What's so wrong with people saying, "F@#$ you, Chuck"?  It makes me feel popular that people care.

Or they don't.

One of those.

To that, let me give a hearty FYC.

Okay, I'm trying not to let this bug me, but it bugs me. Look through this and tell me if you know for sure whether or not the Bears even played on Sunday.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/peter_king/09/10/mmqb.week1/index.html

Now, I'm not saying that we know everything about the Bears from their defeat of a bad opponent, but it seems bizarre to me that King basically says we know nothing about the Bears, but concludes from the Ravens defeat of Tampa Bay (featuring the comic stylings of Chris Simms) that the Ravens are as good as they were in 2000 and will probably kill us all and eat our bones. The Bears beat Brett Favre, probably the greatest QB ever on Sunday, shutting him out for the first time ever as a Packer. Didn't Peter get the memo that Brett Favre is the bestest quarterback in league history? Of course he did, because he wrote that f@#$ing memo.

The funny thing is, and I know I'll get torched for saying it, but... The Packers didn't look all that bad on offense. Their defense will be challenged all year, but with Driver, Green, Bubba Franks, Robert Ferguson and Favre, they shouldn't be as bad as they were last year.

Kermie, you need to print out the list of all the players mentioned on this thread for the Mathematical Erection Party.
I don't know exactly how, but there's got some sort of drinking game to be played with this.

Print 'em out? Nah. Locate a few of them and invite them. What's Donnie Moore doing these days? He's dead? Lucky him.

I consider myself fairly right of center but Coulter does our side no good whatsoever. I hope she goes away soon. And I don't care for Olberman's show. I don't think it's funny or interesting so I haven't spent much time figuring out what he thinks about things.

I'm fairly very right of center Barry Goldwater, and I agree with Apex. Coulter's a shrill, maniacally arrogant woman whose writing skills are vastly overrated. Those of you on the left must love having her appear on a show you are watching for the entertainment value alone. She does for the right what Bill Ligue does for Sox fans.

And Olbermann's a smug prick.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I was concerned about the Steve Raichlen reference...
He's a little odd, but I got one of his cookbooks as a gift a few years ago. It's tremendous!

Which reminds me of another silly, useless fact: The losing pitchers in Games 1-4 of the 1989 NLCS were the only pitchers to win 20 games in a Cub uniform between Ferguson Jenkins and Jon Lieber.

Waaaaiiitt a minute, TJ.  Are you talking abut Sutcliffe (Game #3)?

Sutcliffe never won 20 in a Cub uniform, I'm pretty sure.  He won 20 in '84, but that was split between Chicago (16) and Cleveland (4).  I'm pretty sure that's it.

I am, and you are right. I should have termed that "had a 20 win season while with the Cubs..." I know it's a technicality, but...

done and doner-er

I'm surprised that, with those glasses and all, Vance "I am the" Law couldn't see Will Clark batting .947 against the Cubs in the NLCS. Would have been nice to walk him and KevHead Mitchell in that Game 1 debacle. Thanks a lot, Vance.

Assenmacher was ready and all Zim had to do was point to his right arm and that would have been the night for Maddux. There were 2 out and the bases were loaded, so there was nowhere to put Clark, but maybe Assenmacher retires Clark, the Cubs put up some runs somewhere in that game, and then go to the Stick up 2 games to none. (remember, they chased Reuschel early in Game 2). Which reminds me of another silly, useless fact: The losing pitchers in Games 1-4 of the 1989 NLCS were the only pitchers to win 20 games in a Cub uniform between Ferguson Jenkins and Jon Lieber.

Angel Salazar?  Is that one?  I can't even remember.

Luis Salazar? The Midseason acquisition?

No, Angel was the Salazar of that magical 1988 season. He was the 1988 Cubs' version of Domingo Ramos. He scored 1 run in 34 games and produced a line of .250/.262/.300 before retiring as a Cub at the old age of 26.

Luis Salazar was a 1984 Padre (boo!), a 1985 White Sock (Jack McKeon called Roland Hemond in 1985 and said, "You send me your pothead Cy Young Award winner and his parole officer, and I'll send you Tim Lollar, Bill Long and 2 crazy Venezuelans." Salazar was one of the nutty Venezuelans), and a 1989 Cub (yay!)

Luis was acquired with Shawon's best friend for realtor and Boston favorite Cal Schiraldi, Phil Stephenson and cancer survivor (he's survived testicular AND Hawk Harrelson) Darrin Jackson.

Angel is also Venezuelan, but he did not put up a .325/.357/.425 like Salad Bar did in 1989. Unfortunately, his OBP never topped .300 in his 3 seasons in Lakeview before retiring at 36 in 1992. He now installs satellite dishes in Venezuela.
