We here have a gritty classic in the Eco–Colonial–Other-Ways-of-Knowing Cosmic Fetish genre from the Land That Tonk Forgot, in what I can only imagine to be an example of Criterion doing the same thing. Richard Chamberlain plays Richard Dreyfuss, and nobody plays Teri Garr.

If you can imagine some selection from the parts lists of Angel Heart and The Serpent and the Rainbow that is actually entertaining while preserving the spirit of not making a damned bit of sense, you're in the ballpark.
