The King's Speech
« on: January 31, 2011, 09:57:15 AM »
This is a drama without any drama.  The only dramatic moments are when the Prince/King loses his temper and swears.  They are also the funniest moments.  Yet it is a movie that really involves you.  Maybe it is because we are being let in on the gossip.  It was no secret that George VI had a stammer, but who knew that he was a human being like the rest of us who struggled mightily with a daily problem?  We see his place in his family.  We are asked to respond to the problems of the pampered royalty.  A Prince who just wants to talk like anyone else with no one noticing; a Prince who wants to shtup the person of his choice (in spite of the fact that she was an ugly bitch); a King who doesn't want to be embarrassed in public by either of these disappointments.  Yet, in this very well made movie, we do care.   This is not a big screen movie.  If your taste runs to seeing cars crashing and things blowing up, (or boobs), save this one for the DVD.  But you will like it when you do see it.
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

I really enjoyed it. And yeah, it's more of an intimate, small screen picture.

I really, really liked this movie.

Of the Oscar contenders I've seen:`
True Grit
Social Network
Black Swan
The Fighter
Toy Story 3
Inception
This one is by far my favorite.

Colin Firth and Jeffery Rush were outstanding. Even better than Jeff Bridges and Cristian Bale were in their movies.

There is some discussion going on about releasing an edited version after the Oscars eliminating some of the swearing to get it under an R rating.
That would ruin some of the most entertaining parts of the movie.

The more I think about it I'm left with the impression that this is probably one of the best movies I've seen in years.

Go see this, even you morans can manage two hours without boobs.
