I've always hated Dempster, but never moreso.  It's full on firebarn hate.

QuoteCHICAGO -- The Cubs could be changing. Then again, Ryan Dempster tweeted that nothing has changed.

According to MLB.com's Mark Bowman, the Cubs reportedly have agreed to trade the popular pitcher, who leads the Majors with a 2.11 ERA, to the Braves for young right-hander Randall Delgado. Cubs officials would not confirm the report and said no announcement was scheduled.

Dempster denied a deal on his Twitter (@RyanDempsterFDN): "THERE IS NO TRADE dont know where this info came from!"

Dempster entered the Cubs' clubhouse at PNC Park on Monday afternoon and declined to discuss the report.

So... No new info whatsoever.

Alright then!

I've always hated Dempster, but never moreso.  It's full on firebarn hate.

Why?

Because he's standing in the way of us getting a really solid pitching prospect from a team that does nothing but produce such prospects?  Because he's never pitched well in big situations for the Cubs?

The headline of the Cubs article was pretty clear that Dempster is the holdup.

The headline?

The headline merely says the same thing as the article: that sources say there's a trade on and that Dempster says that this is wrong.

QuoteSource: Dempster to Braves; he says 'no trade'

And that tells us nothing more than we already knew, insofar as the "no trade" part of it is simply quoting the same fucking tweet everyone's already seen.

If anyone willing to talk knows that Dempster himself is the only thing preventing the still-only-rumored trade from coming to fruition, I suspect they'd probably say as much. As it stands, there's only speculation.

No, it's just a headline written by a copy editor for an article written by someone else based on information obtained from a yet another person.

We have no idea if Dempster is holding up a trade. If he's still here after the deadline and says he refused to allow a trade, then you can get your pitchfork out. But until then, you really don't know what's happening.

Also, there's no way in hell Dempster tweets from that account. It's some flunky.

It wasn't even all that. All it was was a headline that simply quoted that Dempster tweet.

Dempster said "no trade" not to Cubs brass asking him to approve a move, but to anyone with an internet connection.

CFiHP misread it.

While we're at it, though, here's another quote that adds virtually nothing substantial to what we know:

Quote"I found out about it when I came off the field after early (batting practice)," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "Somebody said they saw it on the website. So I got on the website and saw it and called the higher ups to make sure. And they were like 'No, nothing is happening. I don't know where that came from.' That's where we are with that." Dempster, 35, has 10-5 trade protection rights, meaning he must approve any trade before it can be executed. The right-hander arrived in the Cubs clubhouse at PNC Park on Monday and addressed the trade talk, downplaying it as "speculation."

It seems the rumor mill at the very least jumped the gun.

You know who I blame? Ryan Dempster. What a dick.

Doesn't any trade in which more than a million bucks is exchanged need approval from the commissioner's office?  Kind of like when the car salesman need to check with his manager in order to give you 10% on undercoating?

I'm as excited about Delgado as anyone, and when I think of all the great pitching prospects the Cubs got from the Braves over the years, Yeow!

Please leave me out of this.  My meatballese is far more nuanced.  For example, I would never say Dempster's never pitched well in big situations.  I'm very specific with the source of my unreasonable hatred and I try to refrain from absolutes.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.
