Bob Brenly.

Well, it's not great, it's awful awful. But that's what this thread is for, right?

Bad news for us, good news for Penfoe and other folk who live in Arizona.

I'm not sure about this, but I think Pen may have moved from Arizona.

Really?  You'd think he'd have said something.

Just read the Trib story and every single replacement they suggested sucks.

Let's set our expectations low.  Very low.

QuoteCrane Kenney likely will have a dozen or so candidates from which to choose for Brenly's replacement in the booth, including Grace, ESPN's Rick Sutcliffe, CSN's Todd Hollandsworth and former Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood, who has said he's not interested in broadcasting but probably could be persuaded to change his mind.

Hell no to Hollandsworth. That goofball was like a hopped-up teenybopper when he filled in this year.

I listened to the Score who had some guy who suggested Bob Vorwald and WGN suits were going to be the guys doing the hiring (getting input from CSN folks), and that the Cubs would rubber-stamp it.

That guy was Len Kasper. He has to be somewhat familiar with the process, no?

If the networks are truly in control of the decision, it make sense that they'd want to bring in the most marketable candidate to generate interest in broadcasts for what will probably be another losing team. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to bring in Kerry Wood all along and told Bob to seek another job and that they wouldn't try to match his offer. And the fact that Kerry is saying he doesn't want the gig unless, he's, you know, compensated in some way, like with money or whatever, looks like an attempt not to alienate all the rabid Bob fans out there who would be asshurt at whoever instigated this change.

I admit, that I may be totally wrong. But let's see how this plays out.

Pollyellon handicapped the candidates, and I will recommend him to any sports book in Vegas. But, that's for the Pollyeloon thread.

Who isn't being discussed as Brenly's replacement that should be? I'll give a few suggestions, in no particular order:

1. Mike Bielecki
2. Dave Otto
3. Rick Monday
4. Lou Piniella (Come on, Steve Lyons has been linked to the job, can't the guying hablaing espanol get a chance too?)
5. Shawon Dunston
6. Mike Krukow
7. Billy Buckner

I'm of course partial to Otto but by all accounts Krukow would be a solid pick if they could lure him away from the Bay.

I wonder how many threads we have to appropriate for talk about the Cubs TV color vacancy. I'd say handful.
