Alfonso Soriano.

Sounds like the Cubs will get back Corey Black, who throws hard but has control issues and isn't that good. He's not a top 20 prospect on the yankees, and their farm system isn't that great.  Cubs are paying roughly $17 million of Alfonso's deal. I'm not sure why every team wasn't more engaged, seems like the Yankees are getting one hell of a bargain for a reasonably good player (assuming Soriano would play for any other team besides New York).

Sounds like Soriano would have maybe only gone to the Yankees (or just a few other teams), so there wasn't a real market for him. Cubs saved some money and got an interesting prospect for a guy whose production is pretty replaceable at this point. Win-win, I guess.

Adding that it's come out now that the Yankees were the only team on Soriano's list. Given that restriction, I think the Cubs did well here.

The Cubs had leverage, since Soriano has more HRs this month than the entire Yankees team, and the Yankees are in a state of perpetual "win now", regardless of how quickly they are hurtling toward late 80s/early 90s Yankee-era baseball. The Cubs' worst-case scenario would be keeping him, which I think EpHoyStink would have found acceptable as well.
