Donnie Murphy's start with the Cubs last summer reminded me of the way that Hank Edwards started with the Cubs in 1949.  He batted .362 in May and .329 in June.  In July he realized who he was playing for and batted .143.

They're cutting people that they're usually picking up this time of year. I think they did a nice job of bringing in guys on NRIs to make a roster where they aren't dumpster diving before opening day.

They did their dumpster diving early.

Every year they will do less and less dumpster diving.

The only guy you can see them doing the traditional flip on would be Hammel.

The Samardzija situation isn't really a "we suck, trade him" thing so I don't count that as the usual deadline sell off.

But I think you're right. I suppose some comments from Theo could lead to Edwin Jackson getting traded if he's having a very strong year and they're way out of it in July. That wouldn't totally shock me.
