Bitching about 2015 David Ross was more acceptable than bitching about Fed because there were long stretches where the 2015 Cubs couldn't score and Ross took the roster spot of a catcher who hit 19 homers and had a .782 OPS. Ross has been markedly better in 2016, and the offense around him is good enough to carry him.

Granted, it was a fairly dumb thing to bitch about, but on the Dumb Scale it is still Less Dumb Than Bitching That Tim Federowicz is 4th on the organizational catcher depth chart.

Yeah but my point was that Coghlan was unnecessary given that they had better outfield options on the roster already, and at least if Almora isn't hitting he's a plus defender, whereas Coghlan is just ass all around. Federowicz was on the roster because they need an emergency catcher if Miguel's back flared up again and they didn't want to call up Contreras prematurely.

One guy has been handed like 60% of the starts in left field undeservedly, one guy was a replacement level player asked to be a backup to the backup.

This isn't totally unreasonable. Coghlan now has nearly 1,000 PAs with the Cubs in which he's put up an OPS pretty close to .800. Over the rest of his career (almost 1,800 PAs) he's got an OPS barely over .700. Sometimes a player just clicks with a particular coaching staff or some other aspect of the team.
