Yes. The HDMI input on the back (at least mine) is the standard input. So, get whatever one you want. The $0.27 version at Amazon is appealing

I haven't, but I've seen the newer amplifiers have HDMI inputs and outputs so that you can have digital connections for sound from your TV and your blu-ray / DVD player.  I believe that the guy I talked to at Abt said that you want to hook HDMI from the amp to the TV in 2 directions.

Regardles, I have 3 HDMI on mine.  I use them for: 1) Cable box; 2) blu-ray; and 3) HD Camcorder.

Unless you intend to use the crappy speakers in your TV, there is no reason to run any audio to the TV (even though the HDMI carries it to the TV you shouldn't use that run for your audio).

The audio I have is clearly substandard relative to everything else I have and is slated next to upgrade.  And I've not had the profit motive to learn about the audio side.
