Is Don Denkinger in the Witness Protection program?

I assumed it was a 2006 World Series pic.

Check out the huge crowd tonight in Pissburgh for the Pirates-Marlins.

If you don't come home with a foul ball, you just aren't trying.

There seriously aren't 500 people there.  Maybe not even 250.

The one upside to living in Pissburgh was ridiculously cheap baseball and being able to sneak down to sit wherever.

Of course, you only saw one big league team play on any given night, and that changed every 2-4 days...
Those Cardinals aren't red, they're yellow.  Like the Spanish!

I imagine it would be hard to sneak anywhere in that park, since the staff-to-fan ratio is 1:1.

If ever there was a ballpark that needs a Lapdance Night, this is the one.

FWIW, it's a beautiful park and they have a Primanti Bros. in there, which is chock full of win.

Proof to the contrary:

A Primanti's Kolbasi and cheese and a lapdance would add a lot of win to that picture.

So apparently 2 years on the DL wasn't enough, but these 6 weeks will make all the difference.

Quote
Chris Carpenter (oblique) is using his time on the DL to quit chewing tobacco, the St. Louis Dispatch reports.

Added snark from Rotowire.com
Quote
Carpenter, who has made "some progress" in his return from the oblique injury, will try acupuncture to work the chewing habit that dates back to high school. It's probably better for the Cardinals - not to mention his fantasy owners - that he works through his withdrawal without damaging the team. Then again, the notoriously-fragile Carpenter could get hurt getting the acupuncture.

Not the NLC, but I hope you'll forgive me...

QuoteSURPRISE, Ariz. -- Relief pitcher Derrick Turnbow has agreed to stay in the Rangers organization and start the season at Triple-A Oklahoma.

Turnbow allowed three more runs in a 10-3 loss to the Giants on Tuesday and has an 8.10 ERA for the spring. He admitted he needs work on his mechanics and fastball command. Turnbow is in camp on a Minor League contract, and he could have opted for free agency if he wasn't added to the Major League roster. Being able to stay in touch with pitching coach Mike Maddux was a significant factor.

"I've been struggling with consistency all spring," Turnbow said. "I need more time to get the rust off and get my mechanics right."

Turnbow, who has been dealing with mechanical and shoulder problems the past few years that have affected his command, had a 15.63 ERA in eight appearances with the Brewers last year and a 10.50 ERA in Triple-A. He did not pitch after July 12, and an MRI revealed he had a partial tear in his rotator cuff.

Turnbow was an All-Star for the Brewers in 2006, but he finished that season with a 6.87 ERA. He had a 4.53 ERA in 77 appearances in '07. He was 7-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 39 saves for the Brewers in 2005, his best season in the Major Leagues.

Update: Turdthrow released by the Rangers.

Pretty sure that means your career is over.

Rangers released RHP Derrick Turnbow.
Looks like the end of the line for Turnbow. He wasn't a control specialist in his prime, but 9 walks and 1 strikeout in 6 1/3 minor-league innings won't get you a job in the major leagues.

BUMPED! for:

Significant Numbers (one ought to be concerned about)

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=ArE8VkNU58wwRYYoFuez6ZcRvLYF?gid=290608124

QuoteThe last-place Rockies won their season-high fifth in a row—four at Busch Stadium—under new manager Jim Tracy. St. Louis has lost a season-worst four straight.

QuoteThe Cardinals were outscored 33-9 while winding up a 2-6 homestand. Even star slugger Albert Pujols was in a slump during this series, going 1 for 14.

QuoteCardinals 2B Skip Schumaker(notes) got an error for failing to cover the bag on Seth Smith's(notes) steal in the eighth, allowing the runner to advance to third. The Cardinals pitched out on the play, and Molina's throw sailed into center field.

Giggedy.
