According to John Heyman, baseball writer for Internet website SI.com, there is "no chance" the Cardinals will sign Pujols before his deadline:

Superstar Albert Pujols and the Cardinals are so far apart in negotiations that people familiar with the talks say there is virtually no chance for a deal before the three-time NL MVP reports to spring camp Feb. 16.

Pujols, who will be a free-agent at season's end, has set his reporting date as the deadline for a contract to be done with the Cardinals, but sources indicate that the sides are far apart across the board, meaning on term as well as dollars. Pujols has made clear talks will cease when he reports, only to be resumed after the season.

Yeah, I think they are going to let Ortiz walk and go after Pujols. Only question is, and maybe it doesn't really matter, but would they make Adrian Gonzalez the DH full-time or would they have the two split 1B/DH duties?

The only chance the Cubs have is if the Yanks and Red Sox are out and the Cardinals continue this dumb negotiating policy.

Well having $350 million or so wrapped up between 1B and DH (either Gonz/Pujols or Tex/Pujols) is a little absurd, even for a team like the Yanks or Red Sox.

I don't see anyway this ends up with Pujols somewhere other than St. Louis.
