Man, he just looks bad on the mound.  Who do they even have that can replace his spot in the rotation right now and be semi effective?

Sean Marshall.  Rich Hill (once he stops shitting his pants).  Jon Lieber (maybe).  There are a number of guys I'd rather see every 5th day than Marquis.

So the Cubs went 7-1 on the homestand in games started by major league pitchers and 1-1 in games started by Jason Marquis. At least he won't get to pitch against Houston.

Cubs starter Jason Marquis (2-3) won for the first time since April 19, allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings.

One win every month. Too bad the Cubs don't play the Pirates again until August. It's the only team he can beat. But the Cubs maybe stuck with Marquis for a while as Dick Hill's trip to Iowa isn't going that well.

The Cubs lefty, who was sent down to Iowa on May 3 to get his house in order, was pulled out of Friday night's game with back stiffness after allowing 3 walks and a 2-run single in the third inning.

"The extent of it I don't know yet," said Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild. "I don't think they do either until later (on). It's not anything. It just cropped up last night."

Has the back bothered Hill before?

"Don't know. He didn't have it last year, he didn't have it earlier in the year," manager Lou Piniella said. "I don't know what the problem is. Let's not make it too serious; it might not be serious at all."

Hill is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA at Iowa. He has allowed a dozen hits in 13 innings, striking out 15 while walking eight.

Actually it means I'm tired of watching Marquis suck at a high rate of speed. I'd rather watch somebody else suck for awhile.

Marquiss won today because the wind was howling in.  It kept definitely a few balls out of the bleachers.  On a day where that doesn't happen, he gets shelled.  Just be thankful the Pirates took the Dusty approach and with the wind blowing in, swung from their asses and JJP'd (Jock Jones Pose, remember that).  The Pirates looked like Dusty's Cubs.  Sucks for them.

Somehow both of those guys are exchanging pitching tips on the PCL bus routes while Chad Fox collects a big league paycheck. Yet the Cubs are in first place and I couldn't care less. It feels good.
