It just gets me thinking about next season, and there is definitely going to be one. I had read that the writers were originally going to end with Dexter seeing a TV news story about a child murder and the end of the season would show him weighing meeting Rita for vacation vs. finding and killing the murderer. That would have sucked.

I think this is a great reset for the show. They can find a way to have someone care for the kids full time, because you know they're not going to go Mr. Mom with Dexter next season. Maybe he can return to being a full-time vigilante next season. Not to mention there's some sense of unfinished business between he and Quinn. Quinn is a dirty cop confirmed and yet they chose not to explore that any further.

I'm also hoping for a violent death for Angel and Maria's phony marriage.

That's what I was hoping for, this time.

These are things that baffle me. The writers have to know that people hate this story. They also had to know that they had written Rita into being a total bitch. Not only that but she was mentally unstable. Always convincing herself that Dexter was a hero and a great guy. I think deep down she knew Dexter was fucked in the head but she wouldn't let herself believe it. When she told him she knows him better than he knows himself, I groaned.

She's better off dead.

Still watching? Last night was excellent and the finale is going to be a real grape squeezer.

It wasn't.  Thank god for Lithgow or the hour would have been a total waste.  Such a tripe reason for Rita to return home.

The finale had me on the edge of my seat, as did the two previous episodes.  The final scene stunned me.  I expected the episode to drift into nothingness, or perhaps one of the subordinate characters discovering some fact that would threaten to expose Dexter.  (Such as Arthur's family seeing Dexter as a cop and not as Kyle).  But, wow.

I guess.  I was skimming Sepinwall's review last week and one of the commenters wondered if they were going to have the guts to do away with Rita.  Kinda had me looking for it.  Once I noticed that we saw very little of Lithgow, it was pretty obvious that they were purposely not showing what he was doing because he was doing something pretty vile.

The "Father has become the Son" part was a nice twist, but I didn't feel huge tension.  Speculative spoiler, I guess.

EVERYONE LOOK AT CHUCK. CHUCK FIGURED IT OUT! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY CHUCK!

Seriously, I loved the ending. FYC.

But I don't expect him the Quinn plot to move forward. Dexter only goes after the really "evil" types. Corrupt police needn't be dealt with through "the code."

The season finale is next week.  The walls seem to be closing in.  Bizarre to be rooting for a serial killer.

Bump.
His sister has discovered his secret.
I am not sure that I like the development.   They are either going to wrap the series up or her days are numbered.

They got divorced in real life.  Hall could easily have her killed off.

Yvonne Strahovski is attractive. Still, there's roughly a 100% probability that Dexter (or his sister... hmmmm.... ) kills her off.

And since we only got sideboob she's definitely not going full frontal which sucks.

But yeah I think Deb kills her and gets a taste for it.

I also think Quinn is going to get Angel killed ONE DAY BEFORE RETIREMENT!

How about she kills Deb, so Dexter has to kill her?  That takes the two people who know Dexter's secret out of the story.
