Pen, you should know by know that this is Huey's way of dealing with the giant pit of despair that is engulfing his soul right now. I think Andy pointed this out before game 3 when Huey was all "All is well, the Cubs are gonna come back and sweep and then YOU'LL ALL BE SORRY!"

I know how you feel, Huey. Wood has been my favorite Cub for a while, and although they're just strangers in pajamas on a team we like, he always seemed like a good dude, and he was awesome against Atlanta in 2003. So it sucks that he's gone. But I understand Huey's need to try to hang on to the rational side of this instead of collapsing into a quivering mess using Fro Dog's glove to wipe away the tears.

I'd also remind you that it wasn't long ago that Wood was thisclose to actually retiring because of the cumulative toll of all the injuries. There's no way you can justify a multi-year deal for a guy whose career is hanging by a thread like that.

Let's wish him well for his own future, and hope we knock 17 HRs off him if'n we have to face him at some point down the road.  Happy trails, Kerry.

This is a sad day for me, Kerry Wood was the last connection I had to the Cubs teams I watched growing up. I was 14 in 1998 when he threw the 20-strikeout game. He was one of the few Cubs who you absolutely knew wouldn't let anyone mess with him, then be able to then blow that guy away with a 98 mile-per-hour fastball or fool him completely with the slider. That combination of attitude and talent sadly hasn't come to the Cubs very often in my lifetime.

The only hope I have now is that he'll go to the American League so the Cubs won't have to face him.

Part of me is holding out hope that he wouldn't since...you know...he gets it.
I hope he goes to the Rangers, that way he'll be "home" and, outside of an occasional interleague match-up, I can just fondly root for him.
 
But at this point all bets are off.
