I realize ERA probably isn't the best indicator of how well a team pitches but the angst over Rothschild is misplaced. I've felt this way for a while now. He's been at least partially responsible for some excellent staffs.

Agreed.  I don't have a problem with Rothschild, and I don't see why anyone would.

He's just kind of there.  Overrated, mostly.  Plus, I like by beer cold, my homosexuals flaming, and my RAGE irrational.

I'm as irrational as anyone. You saw my Theriot post earlier this week, I assume. Just throwing out some defense for Larry. I have a friend who was screaming that Larry should be eviscerated in public late last season. When I tried to reason with him that last year had almost nothing to do with the failures of Larry Rothschild as an individual it didn't have any effect and left me in a foul mood. I think that's probably got a lot to do with it.

I hate Larry Rothschild for thinking he could "fix" jason marquis.

Think other people hate Rothschild because of the Prior/Wood towel throwing, constant injury seasons, but not sure how much of this can be blamed on Larry.

I'm sure Huey has a sweet nickname for Larry though, I kinda wanna hear it.

Larry Garbanzo Beanz.

I don't know who I hate more: you for typing that, or me for laughing at it.

Wait. You. I definitely hate you more.

Good.   I'm currently working on an ecologically-efficient contraption wherein I take all external hatred and convert it into energy that in turns keeps my own ANGER running smoothly.  Clean burning RAGE.

MOAR HATERADE PLZ.
I think he's more of the appendix of Desipio.  Yeah, it's here and you're vaguely aware of it, but only if reminded.  The only time anyone notices it is when it ruptures (on Weebs in the video game thread).  Beyond that, though, it's basically useless and offers no redeeming value.

Maddux pulls off his second trade.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0801-bits-cubs-rockies-chicago20100731,0,5371387.story?obref=obinsite

if  Greg Maddux ever becomes a major league general manager, he can look back on Blake DeWitt as his first move.

[Sully may be overlooking the Izturis trade out of politeness]

Cubs GM Jim Hendry gave Maddux some credit for the decision to acquire the Dodgers infielder in the Ted Lilly/Ryan Theriot deal.

"We've certainly liked him for years," Hendry said. "He's a tough kid. He's 24 years old, so his better days are way ahead of him. ... He has a chance to be a complete player. He has to be better offensively. Greg spoke highly of him, when Greg pitched for the Dodgers, and in my discussions with Greg about him a few weeks back.

If that address is correct, Young Maddux lived in the Star Wars street area of Las Vegas.
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.

It doesn't look like these have been posted here yet, so here's a YouTube find: A 19-year-old Greg Maddux pitching for the Peoria Chiefs against the Quad Cities Angels (featuring Dante Bichette) in 1985.  Surprisingly decent footage.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Cubs starters (managed by Pete Mackanin):

C Hector Villanueva
1B Darcy Walker
2B Bryan House
3B Bruce Crabbe
SS Julius McDougal
LF Todd Smith (read by the announcer as the RF)
CF Don Richardson
RF Rafael Palmeiro (also read by the announcer as the RF)

That's fine.  Harry never quite overcame the urge to call him "Palermo".
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

How did RF become TF in your quote?  That's impressive work.

Was suggesting that's how Cindy felt about Raffy but I'm cool with anything that continues to get mileage out of this.
