Les Savy Fav have a new one out, "Root For Ruin."

It's good, but still stuck on the same plateau they landed on with "Let's Stay Friends."

The better moments on it may be where they forgo the attempts to revisit the Les Savy Fav ragers of old and indulge their melodic side. The immediate stand-out for me is "Let's Get Out of Here": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0a12h8Nb2g

It's Les Savy Fav. And it's good, not great. If you're already a Les Savy Fav fan, you've probably already got it. If you're not, you'd probably be better served by "Go Forth" and "Inches."

So, to sum up, then : ignore this post?

Sure.

Or don't.

Whatever.

Rush sucks.

You would say this about a band that tours with chicken roasters on stage?

I really, really like Rush.

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high?

I wonder if he talks like an ordinary guy.

I think he does. I completely understand the annoying factor. I'm certainly not interested in debating the merits of their music.

Keep in mind my musical taste has evolved from metal to death metal back to prog metal and Rush and now into the whatever sounds good and isn't irritating or overbearingly popular.

If I really wanted to start a debate with a few people around here I could tell you how I went from enjoying Kings of Leon to absolutely loathing them in a matter of weeks. Oleg and BH - I know you want summa this.

Good read - especially if you think Paul Weller should be treated with respect.

Well, obviously he's no Kings of Leon.

Not new or recent but Super Stupid by Funkadelic would drop any pair of panties that were ever worn.

Seriously. Throw in Bootsy's solo stuff too.

At least until George Clinton kicked that funky ball of tits from outerspace off the Mothership. That was July the 2nd, 1979: the day the funk died.

And now for a couple of faux-elitist recommendations:

If you want to know what it feels like to be an astronaut that just single-handedly stomped an Earth-murdering asteroid you should imagine yourself doing so while listening to Philos by Russian Circles

If you likes dee metal, the idea of a two-drummer band, and busty blondes that shred please check out Kylesa because they are all of these things. They're the balls. Here's Said and Done from their last album, Static Tensions. They opened up for Mastodon earlier this year and are touring now with High on Fire. And I fucking missed them in Chicago.

Here's the guitarist in question:

I really love the Death Rides a Horse song. It does very well when it comes up while working out. However, iTunes won't let me download it unless I buy the whole album.. Worth it?

Definitely - but you should get Geneva first. That album is my favorite.

If you're on AIM I can always send the album over to you.
