This inspired me to Google up Dave Davies' take on Van Halen's cover of "You Really Got Me."

Van Halen's version was very Middle America. It was like, 'Hey man, look at me with my tight trousers! Here's our version of You Really Got Me!'

Then comments threads like this test my faith in humanity.

Anyone who think's VH's version is better has no business making their own decisions about anything.

Van Halen took it, strapped a huge pair of balls on it and served it up with a nasty, arrogant, unforgiving swagger....that's the very essence of rock, is it not?
