What Chicago Wants on Slate.

QuoteExpect more scrutiny of Chicago's famously corrupt political machine. So far, Obama has managed to convince people he's from Chicago but not of it—a phenomenon one Chicago columnist dubbed "hopium." But just as the national media are now obsessed with Alaskan drilling, they're also likely to scrutinize city politics and speculate about potential ties to Obama. There may be only one Tony Rezko, but the media can be counted on to try to find others like him.

So far by their coverage (or rather lack) of the one and only Tony Rezko, I highly doubt the media can be counted on for anything but softballs and puff pieces where our 44th President is concerned. There will be choppy waters ahead but most of the criticism will be written off as unfounded Republican hack-jobs. Daley's old man wrote that script a generation ago and it's still playing out to bemusement of many.

QuoteSome expectations will no doubt be dashed. Federal agencies will not brim with Chicagoans. Obama will not move the capital to the Windy City, as he did his campaign. The Cubs will not win the World Series. But at the very least, Chicago will force the world to acknowledge that America is more than the sum of its coasts.

Fuck you.

It sucks. But it's probably true.

She's not going to Foggy Bottom, trust me.  It would be a good way of keeping her from sniping at Obama during his administration, especially preventing her from possibly making a primary challenge in 2012, but she's not leaving the Senate.

What the fuck does any Democrat care if she SNIPES? Why give her anything? What the fuck do they think they OWE her and for WHAT? I swear to God I don't get it.

QuoteAnalyst Paul Light of New York University's John Brademas Center for the Study of Congress said picking Clinton would mean Obama was serious about reaching across the party divide.
On the other hand, he said: "To put her in the competition with several others and pick somebody other than Hillary Clinton after you've floated her name is to have a repeat of the spring and summer division and raise questions about Obama's seriousness about healing the division within the party."

The Democrats have all the tickets now. If they're really for Change(!) they should be about it rather than talk about it. I figured all along that Change(!) just meant no more Bush. I'm sure most of us are for that but if it's a return to the Clinton years or a continuation of the Daley Dynasty on a national level then there will be another Bush coming around in eight years to knock Biden or Hillary or whoever you think the heir apparent will be back on their haunches.

Put this bitch down. And keep her there or your revolution will be over before it starts.

You seem to be expending a lot of Huey ANGER over some speculation that may or may not be true. If Hillary actually ends up as Secretary of State, which I doubt, I won't like it either. We can meet back here and revisit the fact that she's a miserable meat curtain.

And have you actually seen any of the reasonable libruls in here tossing around the words HOPE and CHANGE 1/10th as much as it gets thrown around as a hilarious burn by the right? I don't harbor any illusions that Obama is gonna be the BEST PRES EVER!! I think he's a pragmatist, and I agree with many, but by no means all of his ideas. I think he'll be a big improvement over the last 8 years, and I think he'll do some good for the country. If that makes me a "fucking no brain rube" then I guess I'll politely sit down so the men in white coats can strap on my strait jacket and feed me some gruel.

Holy shit... Where's our resident anarcho-syndicalist, Jon?

Off organizing for the IWW?

Apparently a fun new meme has been ricocheting around the internets while he's been out, taking root among Hillary dead-enders, conspiracy theorists and the hilarious right alike...

http://hillarynme.wordpress.com/2008/11/05/the-obamas-first-faux-pas-behold-americas-new-first-family/

QuoteTHE OBAMAS FIRST FAUX PAS - BEHOLD AMERICA'S NEW FIRST FAMILY

In a campaign where nothing has been left to chance, we have America's new First Family, the Obamas, all decked out in red and black! When I looked at this picture this morning, I thought the choice of clothing colors was a bit odd. Really, who puts black on a little girl and why red & black on the all four of the Obamas?

Why this combination of colors, when surely the campaign has been planning what the first photographs of the incoming faux president and his family would look like for weeks? Even the criss/crossed material on Michelle's dress seemed odd to me. I had to dig a little deeper.

Think about it. Don't we always see politicians in shades or combinations of red, blue, navy, etc. Examples that quickly come to mind include Nancy Reagan's red dresses, Hillary's many shades of blues dresses and pantsuits, Laura Bush her many shades of blue and royal blue . . . the men follow the same the same etiquette. Why, because subliminally we are supposed to think of the red, white, and blue in our country's flag. I didn't have to dig very deep . . . here's the answer.

QuoteBlack and red bisected symbolism

The red-and-black flag is the symbol of the anarcho-syndicalist and anarcho-communist movements. Black is the traditional color of anarchism, and red is the traditional color of socialism. The red-and-black flag combines the two colors in equal parts, with a simple diagonal split. Typically, the red section is placed on the top-left corner, with the black on the bottom-right corner of the flag. This symbolizes the co-existence of anarchist and socialist ideals within the anarcho-syndicalism movement, and to symbolize the more socialistic means of the movement leading to a more anarchistic end.

...

Lest anyone think that campaigns and politicians don't understand the importance and symbolism of the use of color in their campaigns, has anyone forgotten Hillary's orange pantsuit the night of her speech at the Democratic Convention in August?

At the time, I thought that was an odd choice too, until I realized that orange is a color of protest. HRC was so cool, protesting her unfair treatment by the DNC's selection of Obama in her orange suit, and it went over most people's heads. Way, to go, girl! It's just one of the reasons we loved you!

Memo to the Obama team: the choice of red & black clothing for this all important introduction to the American people was either one of the dumbest moves I've ever witnessed, or was incredibility insensitive to the history of this country, or was intentional.

You may want to remember that the last time the world had to deal with a charismatic leader capable of keeping millions of people mesmerized with his rhetoric, his iconic symbol, also in red and black, looked like this . . . [take a guess]

Dennis: Anarcho-syndicalism is a way of preserving freedom.
Woman: Oh, Dennis, forget about freedom. We haven't got enough mud.

Jesus, he's really ANGRY about Obama's election, isn't he?  I find it comical that anybody who's suffered through the last eight years of Republican government can't at least open their mind enough to acknowledge that it might be time to try something else for a while.

I hope that, for the sake of his health, he comes to the realisation that none of this really makes a hell of a lot of difference.  Politiicans are, by and large, all as bad as each other - it's only the ways in which they're bad that change.

Someone somewhere on the transition team scribbled Hillary's name onto a list of candidates. I wouldn't read too much into it.

The next SecState is, like pretty much everyone in the Administration, is going to have an awful lot of cleanup work to do. It needs to be someone with serious international credentials.

Which Hillary doesn't have...and I don't think anyone here would disagree with me on this: Diplomacy ain't her strong suit.
