On that one event alone is the massive disconnect between liberals and conservatives. Your representatives openly slandered a sitting US General, his troops, and their mission, their is no forgiveness for that.

Is their forgiveness for anyone giving the "birthers" credence in there slandering of the Commander-In-Chief?

I simply do not know where to begin with this.  Firstly, I can't quote it all, because in addition to it being monumentally stupid, this MikeC post exceeds the nominal posting length.  Excellent work.

Secondly, I just don't understand MikeC's insouciance towards those without health insurance.  A lot of Americans, not just illegals, need some form of health insurance, and with it, the attendant preventative maintenance that stops big problems (mild weight gain) from becoming bigger problems (obesity, hypertension, high blood pressure, heart disease), and, consequently, becoming stealth taxes on your current health insurance plan.  [twisting the astroturfer's words] It's like you don't even care about what the people (who, according to polls, want a public option) want.  Do you even read the polls?  How can you say health care for me, but not for thee? [/twisting the astroturfer's words]

Whatever happened to showing concern for our neighbors, our fellow citizens?  Why is this such a hard concept?  Why can't the richest nation in the world have some sort of safety net for its poorer citizens?  This isn't a conservative or liberal debate; this is simply about human decency.  If your house was on fire, MikeC, I wouldn't debate the net cost-benefit of giving you my water hose, the potential moral hazards of letting citizens fight fires, or the invisible hand of the economy setting your home ablaze; I would simply give you the fucking hose.

In any event, I can only ask what would happen if you, MikeC, were unemployed, and without health insurance.  We won't even consider your eligibility for Medicaid, for which you probably wouldn't qualify.  We won't even consider the fact that you may need health care and be unable to pay for it.  My question is this: how would you live with the fear that you might get hurt?  And moreover, would it offend your free market sensibilities to go to an Emergency Room and drain the resources from those who do pay for their health insurance, because the law states that they must stabilize your condition?  Would that dose of socialism/atheism/communism/taxolib homocratism offend you?  Would it scare you enough to make you leave the ER before you've been stabilized?

Is this all ad hominem?  Of course it is.  But you know what, I'm sick and tired of listening to people who 1) couldn't identify a fact from the hole in their ass; 2) decry anything that a black Democratic President does simply because he is black and a Democrat and the President; 3) couldn't give a damn about providing alternative solutions to the real problems this country faces; 4) support ignorant and racist tirades from their comrades on talk radio and Fox News; 5) wouldn't know the precepts of grammar or spelling if they literally took a shit on your face; 6) or who carry guns to events where the President of the United States is speaking (which I'm sure you would have been up in arms [get it] over if President Bush were still the President).

So, continue to subscribe to your antiquated theories of life; the rest of the country that isn't becoming an endangered electoral species has big boy work to do.

You know, I don't mean to play into the stereotype of the overindulged and lazy federal employee, but I did in fact write that in between affidavits yesterday.

However, I put in an official leave slip for the fifteen minutes, so all you taxpayers didn't pay for the construction of that tirade.

In any event, thank you.

My concern with health care reform is the consequences that could occur related to the cost of this package. There are estimates out there saying this thing would cost between $1 trillion and $2 trillion over the first decade. Of course, the government has a penchant for not estimating anything correctly. Cash For Clunkers was supposed to use $1 billion in 4 months, however that amount was used up in about 5 weeks. It took what was essentially emergency legislation to get $2 billion more into that program and keep it going.

Even if the cost of health care reform stays under $2 trillion, the cost could easily push an exploding deficit over the edge. At the very least, China would hold an even sharper sword over the U.S. financially. The dollar would be in peril of becoming severely devalued as well.

A point on the town hall stuff... I do think some of the anger has to do with the President being black, and some of it with him being a liberal... But I think there are many people out there that grew up in a culture that preached "If you can't afford it, don't get it"... In other words, most of the people who went through the Great Depression or were the kids of those that had gone through the Depression... My grandparents on my mother's side both went through the Depression and were very wary of taking on any debt, very wary of paying for something when they didn't have the money in the bank, very wary of taking on loans, etc.

This might seem plausible if it weren't for the fact that most (if not all) of the people disrupting the town halls deify Ronald Reagan, who ran the country on a credit card for 8 years.

But at least there's a place for a dissenting voice. Beats the hell out of the town halls with pre-vetted attendees that we used to have.

See, this argument always confuses me. Yes, the deficit did explode during Reagan's time as President. However, he tried to balance his increases in defense spending by proposing cuts in several domestic programs. The Democrats controlled at least one house of Congress throughout his entire term and balked at almost every single proposed domestic spending cut.

Even as a conservative, I still will admit Reagan's flaws. The biggest one was that he was good at winning elections but below average (If not outright poor when it came to domestic matters) at effectively pushing policy.

No, he used the Laffer curve, with the flawed logic of tax cuts paying for increased spending. The spending cuts he got through as part of his "New Federalism" weren't really cuts at all, just shifting financial burden from the Federal government to the states.
