Health care, shmealth care. Tom Coburn's chief of staff has his finger on the pulse of the throbbing, veiny issues that really matter:

Quote"Pornography is a blight," Schwartz told an audience in a crowded room of the Omni Shoreham hotel. "It is a disaster. It is one of those silent diseases in our society that we haven't been able to overcome very well. Now, I may be getting politically incorrect here. And it's been a few years, but not that many, since I was closely associated with pre-adolescent boys, boys around 10 years of age. But it is my observation that boys of that age have less tolerance for homosexuality than just about any other class of people. They speak badly about homosexuality. And that's because they don't want to be that way. They don't want to fall into it."

Schwartz told the crowd about Jim Johnson, a friend of his who turned an old hotel into a hospice for gay men dying of AIDS. "One of the things he said to me," said Schwartz, "that I think is an astonishingly insightful remark... he said 'All pornography is homosexual pornography, because all pornography turns your sexual drive inwards."

There were murmurs and gasps from the crowd. "Now, think about that," said Schwartz. "And if you tell an 11-year-old boy about that, do you think he's going to want to get a copy of Playboy? I'm pretty sure he'll lose interest. That's the last thing he wants! You know, that's a good comment, it's a good point, and it's a good thing to teach young people."

I bought a Playboy for the first time ever this past weekend.  Good stuff.  Am I gay?

That's why there's a Secret Service. Don't think any protester even making an off-handed remark about violence against the President isn't getting a thorough checking-out. And rightfully so.

Have Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh incited violence? I don't see it. Maybe they've fired people up, maybe beyond reason, but I don't think they've incited violence.

But the fact we have crazies who brought stupid signs, a couple of them racially tinged, a couple of them glorifying violence is not a new development. The country survived much worse.  Those pictures of protesters were nice, but nothing new. When W was in power, I saw enough protest pictures that would make most of the Left cringe (at least I hope they would).

And on healthcare, sure people can get fired up over that. Why shouldn't they, especially if it affects them on a day-to-day basis?

Again, they protested because of a war.  However, on health care, what I fail to see is the comprehension from these protesters that there is a problem with health care in this country.  If someone can at least agree to that fundamental precept, then we are okay and can have a debate.  However, by the looks of it, these people are too busy holding up signs announcing our health care system as the BEST IN THE WORLD!!! USA 4 EVA!!!  PALIN 2012!!!  When, in reality, it's 37th.  We have insurers dropping coverage for whatever reasons they see fit in pursuit of an extra international airport for their CEO [Yale could use an international airport, Mr. Burns].  We have about 45,000 Americans dying per year because of poor health coverage.

But, heaven forbid, I'm gonna protest because the gubmint shouldnt be takin over the health care in this here country!!  This plan would disproportionately help the South, but NOOOOO can't have any of that.

Finally, you need to listen to more of Limbaugh and Beck, because if you don't see how they are inciting people, then you aren't listening at all.  May I introduce Brownie to Jim David Adkisson?

I'm NOT listening to them much, if it all. But again, is inciting violence saying something that somehow convinces a handful of crazies out of their audiences of millions to commit an act of violence? Did the left incite violence out of the Ted Kaczynskis of the world? Sorry, but I don't buy it.

As for the fact that you don't see the complaints from the right, Gil, it means maybe you should delve a little further into at least understanding it a little better.

I thought dissent was the highest form of patriotism!

It absolutely is.

There's also a difference between dissent and firing up the low-hanging fruit.

Anyone who doesn't see this ending with an assassination attempt is delusional.

I was just talking about that yesterday with some people.  It feels awful to say it aloud, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.  And if it happens, the Glenn Becks and Rush Limbaughs of the world will talk about how, while they disagreed with Obama, they never (never!) advocated anything like this.  Glenn Beck might even be able to muster up a few tears on-air as he talks about it.  Then they'll act somber for a week or so before going right back to stirring their followers into another angry frenzy over the continued liberal-induced decline of America.

That liar.  Trying to convince all of us that he's from Scranton.

Quote"I come from Scranton, Pennsylvania, and that's as hard-scrabble a place as you're going to find. I'll show you around sometime and you'll see -- it's a hell hole. An absolute jerkwater of a town. You couldn't stand to spend a weekend there. It's just an awful, awful sad place, filled with sad, desperate people with no ambition. Nobody, I mean nobody, but me, has ever come out of that place. It's a genetic cesspool. So don't be telling me that I'm part of the Washington elite, because I come from the absolute worst place on earth."

No, TJ.  They've never, to my knowledge, explicitly advocated killing the president.  You got me there.

I don't know how I would see the complaints from the rights, but I do hear them; however, a large portion of them are simply political efforts to damage the President.  The reason being the right knows good and well that if the public gets their Medicare-for-all, public option, that's it.  Ballgame.  Obama wins his re-elect and the Dems keep Congress.  And this plan will never go away.

If the right were actually interested in debating the nuances of health care reform, I'd welcome it.  However, the only things I've read and heard thus far have been purely political.

Replace "political" with "financial", and you're there. The insurance industry has been going all-in, both in lobbying dollars and in "bipartisan studies" to make shit-sure they don't lose their license to steal. They don't care about the public option nearly as much as they care about regulation.

And the industry's worst nightmare is for Waxman to pull CEOs in front of cameras and ask about bonuses and jets. That would go less than simmingly for them.

Hmm, while not totally outwardly expressing hope for someone's demise, look at these nutjobs:

Dempster sucks ass.  I hate that guy and want him to die.  I hope they make the playoffs and he gets left off the roster.  His 4th inning last night reminded me of Game 1 in the LDS and why I hate that chode so much. Randy Wells should be of no consequence.

Kermie, you need to print out the list of all the players mentioned on this thread for the Mathematical Erection Party.
I don't know exactly how, but there's got some sort of drinking game to be played with this.

I think it needs to be a costume party where we all dress up like our most hated Cub player dying in the way we hope they die.  I call Todd Hundley in a gutter aspirating his own vomit.
