Michigan received $3.7 billion is stimulus money, of which $620 million was to be used to "create and save" jobs, while the remainder will be used by Granholm to backfill the budget deficit that she has created with her overspending so that she doesn't have to make any substantial cuts before she leaves office. When she walks away, she will have lost more than 1,000,000 jobs in a state with a population of only 10 million. A few days ago, Granholm claimed that stimulus money "created or saved" 19,500 jobs. Turns out, the number is an utter fabrication, as I suspected when I wrote that prior post. Fact is, that $620 million "created or saved" 397 jobs.

1.5 million dollars per job, christ just give the 397 people a check for 50,000 dollars a year for the next 20 years and you only spend 397 million.

But don't worry because the stimulus saved 30,000 jobs. See - instead of 4,129,000 lost jobs, if we hadn't throw that $1,000,000,000,000 into the toilet, we would have lost 4,159,000 jobs instead. Doesn't that make you feel better now? Remember that the stimulus package was supposed to stop the unemployment rate at 8%!

Total money paid out in tax benefits, grants, loans, contracts, and entitlements = 173 billion dollars for 30,000 saved or created jobs nationally to date. Thats 5.6 million dollars spent for every job.

Another 600 billion to spend at that rate and we might crack 100,000 jobs. Wooooof.

It's almost as if helping states ameliorate crippling deficits in order to help them avoid cutting jobs, spending and services (including services to the unemployed, which just happen to be on the rise) in the middle of a severe recession is a key goal of fiscal stimulus.

A key goal that was gutted by the bipartisan stimulus compromise.

Meanwhile, 48 states are facing budget shortfalls (primarily due to Jennifer Granholm's profligate spending in Michigan, no doubt) which continue to balloon.

Ummm... how about "Jobs Created/Saved as Reported by Federal Contract Recipients."

That's 30,000+ people directly employed under specific federal contracts:

A company receiving  Recovery Act funding through a contract or grant and projects yet to be contracted out (Contracts Up for Bid) may offer job opportunities.

Direct employment like this (i.e., SOCIALISM) is certainly a big part of the stimulus spending, but it's not the whole point.

The point of fiscal stimulus is to pump money back into a shrinking economy to fill the demand gap. That's intended to go well beyond the effects on those employed directly through federal contracts.
