I don't have any interest in Kinect and my Elite isn't that old.  I think I'll pass and keep my fingers crossed that my Elite doesn't red ring.

Honestly, I think I won't use the Kinect that much. The video when it was released last year looks awesome, but really, I think the only time I will use it is to move around on Netflix. It will be a blast to Minority Report that shit. But, as for games, I don't think it would be that fun, nor do I think the way I have my living room set up will be conducive to it. I'll have to move my coffee table each time. Bleh.

I still don't get how it's going to work for Netflix.  Do you have to sit perfectly still when you're watching a movie?  How will you masturbate?

Shit, I dunno. I suspect that it won't do anything while it's playing though. It will only respond to your voice.. But then my panting, moaning, and subsequent crying may be something of concern.

Best Buy's GM told me they'd take the Elite back and give me the Slim. All is well.

'Splain more.  Gamestop is apparently doing a trade-in promotion.  Eh.  I don't know if it's really worth it.

For me, I can just return the Xbox under the return policy since I bought my Elite last week.

For Gamestop, those prices look pretty close to what I was quoted when I called them (which was on 6/15). I think he told me $167 (with the Edge card extras on the HD and the controller). I also didn't mention the wireless adapter which would have netted me a bit more. I guess it would have jumped up to $200. Anyway, if you have a few games you wouldn't mind parting with, then you can do that. See if you can get to at least $250 or so. Reason I say that price is because that bundle they're selling with Kinect. Once you get over $250, then the difference you have to pay will be less than buying the Kinect outright.

One thing to consider is how you would buy the new xbox and still get your data onto the new one. They are saying the old data transfer cables will work, but that's useless if you trade your xbox + HD in to Gamestop, since they'll have it. I don't know if Gamestop will be offering people the chance to move all their data, but it's something to consider. I've also read that you can transfer your information to a USB drive and then move it over to the new Xbox.

You won't actually get the Kinect with that new Xbox.  The system is just "compatible" with it, meaning you don't need a separate power adapter just for the Kinect hardware.  You'll still have to spend $150 on it when it come out in September or whenever.

What I mean is that you're paying $400 for the new Xbox and Kinect. Get the sexbox now. Get Kinect later. That saves $50, since I hear Kinect is $150.

I don't have any interest in Kinect and my Elite isn't that old.  I think I'll pass and keep my fingers crossed that my Elite doesn't red ring.

I'll give you a full report on what you're missing tonight.

Yea.. About that. I bought a couple hard drive transfer cables from overstock.com. I connected my hard drive to the new xbox and it would read the hard drive as an external USB device but not as another xbox hard drive. I can't transfer my stuff from my old hard drive to the new xbox yet. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I need to find someone with a blank 40-80GB external hard drive so I can transfer it from my old hard drive to there and then to the new xbox. So, in short, I couldn't really do much on it this weekend. Watched some Netflix and that's it.

That said, it is quieter. That is very true. It's not too much slimmer. Maybe a half inch at the most. The big difference is that, when standing up, it's about 2-3 inches shorter than the old one. Also, the power button and tray open button are activated by touch, as the PS3 ones are.

Crisis averted. I transferred my old data to the slim. Moral of the story: Don't buy the cheap transfer cables from Overstock.com. Buy the official shit from Microsoft. I guess the main thing I love about the Slim is how quiet it is. When running a game, you never hear the thing. And the touch buttons on the front are cool, along with the cool sounds it makes when it turns on and opens.

Similar. They couldn't copy it completely.

From what I gather, this new 360 is basically Microsoft's version of a PS3 Slim.

Except with a catalog of games that anyone would actually want to play.

That's dumb.  They basically both have the same catalog except that PS3 has games like the Uncharteds and MLB The Show.  Microsoft has Halo.  So what?

They also have Gears of War. I prefer the Xbox for the controller and the way everything is structured. I like the Achievement system over the Trophy system. The PS3 can do more in regards to play BluRay movies and acts as a computer by letting you put a different OS on or use an actual internet browser. I don't think it will be long before Microsoft ventures into the latter of those two on the Xbox... However, I used my browser like 2 times on the PS3. Once to see what it could do (and by that I mean, can I get porn on my 58? and the answer was yes) and then a couple weeks ago to see if Hulu would stream on there (and it wouldn't). I have this loyalty thing that I can't kick (Xbox, Milton, Z, etc). I like my Xbox and I will continue buying games that are on both platforms for it.

Honestly, I don't get the console war thing.  I have what I have because meets what I want to get out of it:  good baseball, and that's about it.  I guess if you like Huluing or twatbooking or whatever else, then fine.

I solved this problem by buying both. Most of my friends have a 360 though so that's where I buy/rent my dual platform games. I prefer the 360 though for their interface, their achievement system (what have I achieved other than becoming more and more anti-social?) and their Netflix set up. I don't have to put in a disc to watch Netflix on my Xbox. Small details but definitely appreciated.

PS3 is great for the exclusives and the blu-ray. Everyone wins.
