Yes, like most enlightened fans, I don't use RBI as meaningful barometer of an individual player's success--certainly when there are cleaner metrics to use which are more team-independent.  However, it's still a statistic and in this context, it's a team-dependent statistic being used for a player on an otherwise godawful offensive team.  And it's impressive, by any objective measure.  Now go get your shinebox.

Colbert's season is more impressive, not just because he tallied an extra 9 ribbies (!), but because he knocked in 22.7% of all runs that the Fathers scored that year. The '67 Reds scored 604 runs, so Perez "only" accounted for 16.9% of their runs. Fonsie is sitting at 18.6% -- 88 RBIs out of the 472 runs the Cubbies (!) have scored
