I am legitimately fascinated by how bad their offense has been. They're team OPS has now dropped to .638. They're like an entire team of Jonathan Herreras.

Incredibly, they're actually four games ahead of their X_WL: they're at 28-36 and by rights they should be closer to 24-40.  They're really, really fucking shitty.  Heh.

I remember feeling a little jealous of the Melky signing, thinking he'd make a nice stopgap in left, but whoooo boy am I glad that bullet was dodged.

The Cubs still have 6 games to play against the Sox, too.

Holy shit. According to Jeff Sullivan of Fangraphs the five worst teams in terms of batter WAR since 2002:

2004 Diamondbacks (51-111): -0.4
2003 Tigers (43-119): -1.2
2002 Tigers (55-106): -1.3
2013 Marlins(62-100): -1.6
2015 White Sox (28-36): -3.3 and counting.

Would expect them to see some regression to the mean presumably from guys like Alexei and Melky and they'll probably end up being somewhat less awful offensively than that, but good God. Historically awful offense.

Since this thread's been bumped I might as well post this, which was published weeks ago in the Tribune.

I'd be curious to hear what some of the legal eagles (i.e. Hawk & Stew etc.) might say about Danks' case.

I'm sure there are some missing parts (this Blake Pabst guy was the only one doing blow?) but even reading between the lines it seems that Danks acted like some sort of a scared shithead in handling the situation, but at the same time his friend seems like a pretty big fuckup.  Awful situation but I can't stop coming back to the notion that Danks--though not liable IMO--must be some kind of a dipshit.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

I think Danks' counsel should be sanctioned for representing a falsehood to the court, namely, that John has "true talent."

This dumpster fire is really, really amusing. They can't even win when Sale is pitching.

If the Sox decide to completely back the truck up, I'd enjoy it if the Cubs got Sale. He's a good pitcher, but mainly for the yuks.

Dave Cameron on Fangraphs proposed Sale for Schwarber/Baez/Mendy and that would never happen in a million years but I'd shit my pants with glee if it did.

He's not going anywhere though. Team control through 2020 and nobody's gonna pony up what it would cost to get him, surely. I do wonder if they might move Quintana. Snork's obviously gone.

The Cubs would have to give up Russell and then some.

For the sake of discussion: Russell, McKinney, Underwood.

ETA: This still feels light to me from the Sox perspective. But Russell + Schwarber seemed like probably too much. Russell + Baez too redundant. Bryant is presumably off the table. So I'm not sure.

This is the thread where we make fun of the Sox not where we discuss trading Addison Russell that thread is up your butt.

If it were me, I'd do that in a heartbeat although ...

1) I really wish Kenny Williams was still pulling the strings. He seemed to love toolsy infielders so Alcantara would've been a perfect third chip instead of McKinney.
2) Wait, this is Billy McKinney?

If Kenny were still in charge, they could swap Starlin for Russell and call it a day.  At least that's how I'm fantasizing about it.
