I love Ron Artest.

We're all moved by the death of Michael Jackson, but newest Laker Ron Artest is spectacularly moved. And by that I mean, he was moved to Ron Artesty, crazy lengths.

He not only chose to wear the number 37, which coincides with the number of weeks Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album was on the charts, he went a bit farther.

Artest recorded a song, posted on Youtube, that is his "tribute" to the King of Pop. The song is laced with the N-word, the F-word, and strange lyrics:

"I know you're in heaven. I hope to see you next year."

"You used to show me love. I know you didn't know me, but you showed me love."

Shawn Marion is the odd player out in the wake of Turkoglu's turn, generating surprisingly little interest for a guy who was an All-Star every year from 2005 through 2007. The big problem is that Marion's value, as much as almost any free agent's, is contextual. As I laid out in an Every Play Counts piece while Marion was still in Miami, to be successful he needs an up-tempo team, one that will play him at power forward and one that will give him the chance to make plays on offense without the ball. The Raptors were, at best, one out of three on those points. Lo and behold, his rate stats changed little following the trade save for a considerable increase in possession usage. Unfortunately, unless Mike D'Antoni shows interest in a reunion in New York, it's tough to see what team can offer Marion all of the things he needs to succeed.

Could a guy like Marion succeed under Vinny, a student of the D'Antoni system (to a degree)?  We've got room at the four and a playmaking PG- how bad of an idea could it be?

It appears that the Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors have successfully recruited the Memphis Grizzlies to help them complete a trade that would eventually route free-agent swingman Shawn Marion to the Mavericks, according to NBA front-office sources.

Here's the thing...it's a one year deal worth $2 mill.  I think that meets the criteria that KD set out in the original article Eli pointed out:

Unless you're bringing him on for a slim salary that only lasts for one year, Jannero Pargo doesn't help. Jannero Pargo hurts, especially if he's on the books beyond 2009-10.

By far not the worst thing the Bulls have done the last month or so, which is sadly saying something.  But it's not doom.

I may have missed something, but what does Portland sacrafice in that equation?  For the Bulls it's Thomas/Hinrich for Boozer (fuck and yes).  For the Jazz it would be Tyrus and probably resigning Milsap to replace Boozer (fine for them).  Portland gets Hinrich for....the ability to take on his contract?

Furthermore, isn't Boozer an UFA after this year?

Yeah, he is. This would be outstanding. You get a really good player who you can either sign to an extension if he fits well with Rose, or use as a trade asset if somebody better (Bosh/Amare) is available at the deadline. This sounds too good to be true. As for what the Blazers are giving up, good question.

Also, I think anyone who want to take on Hinrich's contract really shouldn't have to give up anything.
Maybe Paxson can finally get his wish and get Przybilla out of the deal too, now that he completely sucks.
