When I was at the Calgary game, it was interesting listening to people who didn't know what icing was.  I can swear I heard about like 5 conversations wherein clueless girlfriend or Chad-esque boyfriend were questioning what the refs were calling.

What made it even better was when said Chad attempted to explain icing.  That was glorious.

A) He gargles liquid weiner

B) He was a scratch last night anyway - and if they like what they see from Hendry, who knows.

Why would a team call a time out before their own 5 on 3 power play?  Why give the opponents' penalty killers a chance to rest?  I can't believe Quenneville's got to call a time out to make sure his guys set up the play where Barker and the other point man pass the puck back forth before getting their shot blocked.  Shouldn't they be working on this in practice?  I guess the time out MIGHT make sense if the coach sees some tendency in the opponent that they can specifically expose, but that won't fly here as the Hawks had plenty of time off to prepare for the Canucks.

Why would a team call a time out before their own 5 on 3 power play?  Why give the opponents' penalty killers a chance to rest?  

Because you get to rest 5 guys, they get to rest 3.  Also, since most teams have 2 PK units, they're going to send out the unit that wasn't on the ice and is relatively fresh anyways.

Since the offense has such a dominant position on a 5 on 3, especially an extended 5 on 3, the blow you give the D doesn't matter, but the strategy and blow your guys get can be the difference between a goal and a missed chance.
