...I really don't understand Cubs fans' Valbuena fever.

Cheap guy who got on base and hit homers and played good defense WITH flair to boot. Yeah who needs that.

Yeah, I don't know what's so hard to understand about it.

There were fans upset that they traded Emilio Bonifacio and someone doesn't understand people being sad to see an actually good (albeit expendable) player go?

Hell, Apex was upset they traded Kevin Hart Juan Cruz.

Fixed.

But your point is valid.

No, I get he's a useful player.  But so is Fowler.  Calling this trade "painful" and "sad"?  That's what I don't get.  Painful and sad is when a pet dies, not when one useful player is traded for another one.  I don't think it hurts to lose Luis Valbuena.

At that point, people were being sarcastic, as I was, when I said I was butthurt about the Juan Cruz trade.

Ok, that's not true. I was actually butthurt and I still am.

Are these actual people who said this trade was painful and sad, or is this like when SKO invents people with contrary viewpoints so he can argue with them?
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

If we're being super literal in explaining this, at some point two seasons ago Valbuena took on a sort of ironically-mythical persona led by (I think) Andy. Other people glommed onto it to some degree. Sort of like Hank White did a while back. Except Valbuena was actually good, but that's besides the point.

Everyone has their half-joking folk heroes. Apex had Kevin Hart Juan Cruz. I had Matt Murton. Andy had Valbuena. So it goes.

Sterling's just trying to ease Andy's pain by ruining everything that was ever good about Luis, the Cubs, comedy, and America so that he won't be as sad about losing these things.
