I'm currently a registered Republican and Reince Priebus sent me a survey to help shape the GOP's future.

The Republicans have cornered the radical angry white man vote, CT. They need to know how to cater to the Non-descript once more. Show them the way

It's fucking terrible.  The Ted Cruz robocall machine is full, sweaty effect, there are constant messages from concerned local voters who want to set the record straight, and Peter Roskam is camped out on my front lawn and won't go home.

As posted elsewhere... I will vote for ANY CANDIDATE that will make the do not call registry include political calls.

Maybe you should just cut the cord on the land line.

You try explaning that to my 80 year old mother.

My wife lives in mortal fear that we're going to hire a babysitter who doesn't possess their own cell phone.

Like some kind of Amish person?

Been married over 13 years and we've never had one.

Kind of peaceful during election season actually.

I wish someone would call us.

I've been trying to talk my wife into cutting our landline for a while now. We're paying $20+ a month for it, and we literally never use it. She's worried about us being hit by another ice storm - last time we were, the cell network went down. But I'm pretty sure we lost our landlines too, so...

It's an awful lot of money to spend each year on "what if."

Wouldn't landlines be more likely to go down in the event of an ice storm (since radiowaves aren't affected by fallen trees/branches and ice build-up)?

Where do you think cell phone towers get their power from?
The power goes out routinely in my neighborhood and the land line is the only way I can call ComEd to listen to a recording about reporting my power is out.

They don't have failover generators?

Edit: They do! Backup power, at least.

http://www.ehow.com/about_5397187_do-phones-work-power-outages.html

QuoteVerizon reminds investors that the FCC imposes "specific mandates" on wireless carriers including "backup electric power at most cell sites." Therefore, cell towers typically have battery backup arrangements that support operations for two to four hours, depending upon call traffic. In 2008 the FCC wanted to order an eight-hour minimum, but the Bush administration asked for more study. In critical service areas, battery backup is enhanced by generators that automatically start when the batteries cannot provide enough power.

They do indeed. Huge gorgeous Kohler units that shut off about an hour after the power initially goes out. If they start at all.
The battery back-up last about 15 minutes.

I had that dream again last night.  I was back in college, but at my current age.  I was taking a final exam in a philosophy class, but I had never attended the lectures nor read the text books.  ( I got a C.  Under the circumstances I'll take it.)
This is getting monotonous.  The dream came back last night.  I was taking a final exam, this time in law school.  It was a three hour final consisting of 4 essay questions.  I easily got through the first three questions, but with 6 minutes left in the 45 minutes that I saved for the fourth question I hadn't even started an answer.  Then I realized that I had misread the instructions for the exam and learned that I was supposed to answer on opaque yellow waxed paper, which I didn't have, and that my answer could not be longer than 2 pages.  I woke up sweating and couldn't get back to sleep.
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

Did you have a really rough time in law school, Stew?
